Booked because of favourable website descriptors and photos. Staying on business so the executive room seemed to fit the bill at £110 room only. with upgraded facilities and complementary water and fruit etc. Upon arrival, the hotel was locked up and doorbell not answered so had to telephone. FInally admitted and checked in.
Got to room, which was fairly shoddy and the bathroom half tiled, trailing wires to plug sockets, no upgraded facilities but had the worst tea making facilities ever experienced by me. Plug couldnt be removed from the bath, other than with tea spoon,
Requested fresh milk, rather than little UHT cartons, and a few more tea bags plus an extra towel at reception. These arrived along with water and fruit (later found out that hotel manager had complained to my company booking agent wihout raising the issue with me). No hot water the next morning. Upon checking out the receptionist became rude and aggressive when I questioned the fact that I had been charged for my partner when the tariff was room only. I felt intimidated by the postures and gestures of this person and had to ask him to stop shouting at me. At this point I should mention that I am a Blue Badge holder. I settled the bill, including the extra charges and left.
As an addition, I'd like to mention that apparantly the only room which can be accessed without stairs is Room 49. This is situated in a narrow corridor, off the restaurant and is opposite the Gents toilet (very small), next to a laundry and storeroom and the Ladies/
Accessible toilet and entrance to the kitchen. The hotel Reception is up a steep and narrow flight of stairs.
However, the Bar/Restaurant is pleasant, with a limited and expensive menu but the chef was willing to adapt to my requests. There was also a good offer of a free bottle of house wine if dinner was ordered before 19.00.
