“Reasonable accommodation, poor swimming pool & spa”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Slightly old fashioned hotel; however, the staff were very efficient and very helpful. The hotel was kept spotless. I had to kindly ask the waitress at breakfast to stop spraying the tables around us as the smell of disinfectant put us off our food.
Our twin room was upgraded (free as the hotel had a couple of quiet nights, according to the receptionist) although not sure what the standard room would have been like as the upgraded room was no more than we would have expected from a 4* hotel. We found the beds uncomfortable.
The swimming pool, sauna and changing rooms were pretty awful - looked like a dated school pool and changing rooms. We take 6 short hotel breaks a year with 3 & 4 star rating and only stay where the hotel has leisure facilities, however, we used the facilities just once in this hotel as it was such a horrible environment.
The grounds are nice and the location is excellent for Bath and Bristol - some good walks from the hotel and a nearby golf club. Set in a quiet location and the parking was free which is unusual for a 4* hotel.

“REASONABLE HOTEL FOR AIRPORT OVERNIGHT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

A reasonable hotel for an overnight stop before flying out of Bristol Airport. The Airport is not on the doorstep but we did have a deal with transfers included and free parking. The hotel is fine, nothing special or out of the ordinary but very serviceable. The restaurant is cold looking and uninviting so we had an adequate if basic meal in the bar. The rooms are fine - in fairness the reception guy was very good as my party was three guys who were going on a skiing holiday... we had booked a tripple room but this turn out to be a double and single bed. The guy on the reception when he saw our party suggested changing to a twin with an extra bed put in it... was good that he saw the situation and suggested an alternative. As I say a reasonable hotel and serves its purpose, but dont think your booking five star, cos your not!

Room Tip: Ask for one near to the reception... some are a long walk with cases!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our hotel.

We hope you had a great time on your skiing holiday. I am pleased to hear the receptionist on duty catered to your requirements.

We are disappointed to hear you found the restaurant cold and uninviting, it is a historical building, originally part of Ashton Court Estate and is normally very well received by our guests.

We have taken on board your comments regarding the bar menu and currently finalising new menus. We hope the new menus will meet your expectations on your next stop off prior to your next holiday.

“More lodge than hotel and country club.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I stayed here for two nights on business. A strange looking building consisting of one original part with many incongruous later additions. The service was OK but lacklustre and the food in the restaurant was in my view like a supermarket ready meal. However the room was probably the biggest let down with dodgy shower, complete with laminated notice apologising for the fact it didn't really work, (I was with several colleagues all of whom reported the same thing) and a very grubby sink area. A huge security light outside the window destroyed any chance of a good night's sleep and none of my colleagues succeeded in accessing the Internet through the chargeable wifi.

“Comfortable overnight stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed with a group of friends for one night. The restaurant was closed on the night we stayed, but, we were able to order food from the room service menu and eat in the sports bar (much appreciated by the footie fans in the group!) The rooms were clean and comfortable and provided everything we needed. Breakfast was help yourself buffet and very nice.
The staff were very good, welcoming and efficient, constantly making sure we were happy and had everything we needed.
I will definitly return, hopefully for a bit longer next time so that I can make use of the swimming pool.

“A bit tired but great for Christmas parties”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Room on first floor was pretty good apart from the shower did not work.
The hotel provided another room to use for showering.
A shame really because the decor and quality of the bed was good
It would have been nice to have bath robes but we were only staying one night.
They do great Christmas parties and good breakfasts offering most things cold and hot.
All staff we came across were very good
The hotel is a bit tired and would benefit from a refurb but I guess in this economic climate this is unlikely to happen
