“Brilliant break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My 2 friends and I stayed at the Mercure Holland House on a Spa night break and it was great. We had a ground floor room that slept 3 with 2 double beds and the room was lovely, clean and big. We had a spa treatment - Swedish Back massage which was fabulous and the Spa Manager, Tricia, was lovely and welcoming - Thank you. The swimming pool was good too. The evening meal was included in the price which was really good and 4/5 choices, we had a bottle of wine which was a good price for a hotel £16.The breakfast was buffet and a good choice. We even had time for some shopping -Cabots Circus was approx 15 min walk or £6 in a taxi. The hotel also had a locked room where we left our luggage after check-out which was FOC and very useful.
All in all we had a wonderful time with no complaints only complements. We will definately stay here again. Thank you.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room which had 2 double beds and the room was large.

“Comfortable Pleasant Stay over Christmas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed over Christmas 2011 - Christmas day and boxing day as there was not enough room at our daughter's house.
We had a room on the ground floor -I think everyone had a room there- the hotel was not that full!
The room was comfortable and a reasonable size - plus no real noise from the road. Bed was comfortable - bathroom very decent.
My only grumble would be breakfast -not very inspiring, a little amateurish despite their claim of local ingredients -giving them the benefit of doubt maybe all the 'good' chefs had a Christmas holiday?
I would stay there again -great position in the middle of Bristol and overall a decent experience [but I do like my breakfast:) ]

Room Tip: Quieter at the back of the hotel.

“Good comfortable chain hotel near Bristol centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Overnight stay in Bristol for midweek business paid for by my employer. Nice hotel in a good location for the centre. Happy to check me in at 10a.m and I was able to park in the rear car park with no bother at an additional cost of £5 with collection later the next afternoon. The staff were polite and the service good. I personally can't fault the room (469) - well appointed comfortable and clean with a nice en-suite and everything one would expect but some of my colleagues had no heating which, on the evening when it plummeted to below 0 degrees C, they were not too happy with. I believe that use of WI-FI was at an additional cost and on the expensive side as were the cost of drinks in the bar. We eat out in the evening with a nice variety of restaurants just around the corner near the river front. I did eat breakfast in the restaurant which was good, with the usual wide selection of cooked and cold dishes. There is a small gym and pool on site but did not use it. Would be happy to use it again.

“Good location, nice room, good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Good location, nice room and good food - what else do you need for a 3 day business trip? I arrived here just as Februaries bitter cold spell set in so found myself eating in the hotel on all three nights. I'm always suspicious of menus in this class of chain hotel as they often promise more than they deliver but I have to say I was pleased with the food here. All appeared freshly prepared & cooked (not shipped and then heated up). It's not often in the UK that a chef understands what a 'rare' steak is and my 'Casterbridge' rib eye was perfectly cooked. Restaurant staff were friendly and efficient. It is also possible to have the restaurant menu served to you in the bar if you feel inclined to an informal evening.

If you don't wish to dine in the hotel it's close to plenty of good bars and restaurants.

My room was spotless, of a decent size and had a nice view of the harbour.

I didn't try the pool, gym or spa on this occasion.

All in all a pleasant stay.
