“Good comfortable chain hotel near Bristol centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Overnight stay in Bristol for midweek business paid for by my employer. Nice hotel in a good location for the centre. Happy to check me in at 10a.m and I was able to park in the rear car park with no bother at an additional cost of £5 with collection later the next afternoon. The staff were polite and the service good. I personally can't fault the room (469) - well appointed comfortable and clean with a nice en-suite and everything one would expect but some of my colleagues had no heating which, on the evening when it plummeted to below 0 degrees C, they were not too happy with. I believe that use of WI-FI was at an additional cost and on the expensive side as were the cost of drinks in the bar. We eat out in the evening with a nice variety of restaurants just around the corner near the river front. I did eat breakfast in the restaurant which was good, with the usual wide selection of cooked and cold dishes. There is a small gym and pool on site but did not use it. Would be happy to use it again.

“Good location, nice room, good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Good location, nice room and good food - what else do you need for a 3 day business trip? I arrived here just as Februaries bitter cold spell set in so found myself eating in the hotel on all three nights. I'm always suspicious of menus in this class of chain hotel as they often promise more than they deliver but I have to say I was pleased with the food here. All appeared freshly prepared & cooked (not shipped and then heated up). It's not often in the UK that a chef understands what a 'rare' steak is and my 'Casterbridge' rib eye was perfectly cooked. Restaurant staff were friendly and efficient. It is also possible to have the restaurant menu served to you in the bar if you feel inclined to an informal evening.

If you don't wish to dine in the hotel it's close to plenty of good bars and restaurants.

My room was spotless, of a decent size and had a nice view of the harbour.

I didn't try the pool, gym or spa on this occasion.

All in all a pleasant stay.

“Spa & Pool issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Booked hotel for a spa weekend with my daughter. Had difficulty
in finding out what spa treatments were on offer, terrible web site, receptionist had no idea.
Problems getting through to spa who couldn't seem to give me a comprehensive list. However eventually booked package weekend plus three other treatments each. These were
good but rushed at end as spa was closing and toe nails were not given time to dry and they had no slippers available. It was also far to cold in treatment rooms. Hotel room good and we had one dinner which was very good, staff all frindly and helpful at reception. Went for swim in pool which was very nice BUT went to have shower and found all mould growing on walls and floor felt slippery, like it was all slimy. I took one look and returned to room wrapped in towel to shower. Summary, room and hotel clean, changing rooms and showers dirty. Food good, location good. Spa too cold to be enjoyable.

“Great for business”

Overnight stay in Bristol for midweek business.
Lovely hotel in a great location - I will always stay here whilst on business in Bristol.
The staff were very polite (perhaps a little too much!), and the service very good. I can't fault the rooms - well appointed and everything one would expect.
I didn't eat in the restaurant until the morning, as I walked into town (5-10 mins away) and sampled the night life. Breakfast itself was good, with a wide selection of cooked and cold dishes. There is a small gym on site if that is your thing.
Will definitely be coming back.

“Will not stay again!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

Me and my fiance alwAys stay in mercure hotels whenever we have a romantic weekend away but this time i was very dissapointed and i will not stay in this hotel again. We stayed in a standard room, no lock in bathroom door and it didnt close properly, shower head leaks and it doesnt stay up properly, shower hose was very dirty, Fag burn in toilet seat! Kettle in the room was very dirty and smelly! The leisure facilities were the worse i've seen! Ladies changing rooms were terrible! Very smelly, toilet and sink very dirty, there was mould everywhere in the shower area! I coulnt finish my shower because i was so disgusted by it! Definitly in need of attention!!! Bags not provided for wet bathing suits! Also the water in the swimming pool was quite dirty! Easy to see with the lights. Only stayed for 5 mnts! The staff were very nice but food was quite poor! Not alot to choose from and also i asked for a chicken ceaser salad that came with 2 little sardine fillets on top which doesnt say on the menu! Ended up aving chicken that tasted of fish! Overall very poor! No wow factor, very unclean leisure facilities, never again! The other mercure hotel in bristol is 1000x better! Not 4 star standard at all! Very disapointed! Lovely staff tho!
