We stayed for one night at the Bridge Inn New Lodge, we travelled as an extended family with a toddler.
This hotel has the potential to be really great, the food is very good and the staff are very helpful. Drinks are reasonably priced and well kept, the kids play area is great. Our little one loved it plus it is free for toddlers which was great for us!
The bar areas and bedrooms were clean and the beds comfortable, food is well cooked and the buffet breakfast was very good.
However, it does have it's faults. The carpet in the ground floor corridor to the rooms was soaked in one place so that you squelched on the carpet (apparrently one of the rooms had a leak and the Greene King management company had to sign off the spend for the work to be done). We stayed in room 11, and as said the bedroom was fine, but the bathroom was poor, the shower head had not been descaled for ages, the taps had scale and dirt around them. The bathroom floor had some dubious looking stains, and the floor under the vinyl was obviously swollen through getting wet as it was very springy underfoot. The bathroom door was disintegrating at the bottom and didn't shut properly, this was reported to reception as we left.
The pub and resturant areas while clean are starting to look tired with damp patches, cracks and repairs. None of this would stop us staying here again, but we would definately not have that room again.
My brother in law stayed in room 12 and reported much the same in the bathroom, but again the bed was comfortable and clean.
Speaking to the staff while we were there I got the impression that they would like to improve areas where there are problems but the management company don't want to spend the money. I feel this is a shame as this could be a great hotel in a nice and peaceful location if it had the money spent on it.
I have said we would recommend this to a friend as the overall experience is ok if you take into account the problems.
