“clean, high quality self-catering apartment in an excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

We're currently staying in the top floor flat (the one featured in the photo) as my partner and I are working in Bristol for a couple of weeks.

Overall the flat is fantastic: clean, large rooms, all the facilites you would expect including a dishwasher and a washer/dryer in the kitchen, excellent showers in the two bathrooms, internet access, great location just between Queens Square and St Nick's market.

We've bumped into the manageress and the maintenance guy a couple of times over the last week, and they're both lovely and very attentive. We've had no problems with anything, but they've made it very clear they are happy to help if anything arises, and happy to recommend restaurants or attractions if we would like. Other than that they've been very discrete, but it's nice to know they are there if we need them.

As we are light sleepers we take our own bedlinen and pillows with us whenever we travel, but the quality of the provided linen seems better than average.

There are a few little niggles though: 1) the heating is by electric storage heaters, so the place gets very cold during the day and very hot at night and it's impossible to control the temperature effectively. 2) the self-closing doors make a HUGE crash! I'm glad to see it's not just us that have experienced this. It makes going to the loo in the night a loudly advertised event to all in the flat. Not ideal....

Those tiny niggles aside (and they really are tiny), this is an excellent apartment, and I would choose this over a hotel any day of the week.

Room Tip: try and get a room higher up the building. Due to its central location it can get quite noisy at ni...

“Great location but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011 via mobile

Our stay was pleasant but the room was very hot and given it's central location keeping windows open to cool the place ment a disturbed nights sleep, could do with a fan ( we turned all radiators off). The matress was lumpy and the quality of bedding and linen was poor, synthetic pillows, duvets and low value linen ment along with the heat sleeping was a challenge. The room was large and well equipped and the bathroom was clean with a very good shower.

“Perfect place for a city centre stay in Bristol”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

West India House is a beautiful and recently-renovated set of apartments right in the heart of Bristol. We stayed for 2 nights over a weekend, as it was quite a bit cheaper than nearby hotels, and I have to say I'd choose a SACO apartment over a hotel every time if I visited again. Our studio apartment was light and airy, with high ceilings in a converted original building, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the heart of Bristol.
Our apartment on the 3rd floor had a large main studio room with a bedroom and lounge area, and two large bay windows. We also had a separate bathroom with its own hot water tank and a fantastic walk-in shower, and a separate kitchen, with fridge, cooker, hob and washing machine. One nice touch was that we found milk and a first day's set of breakfast cereals, teas and coffees waiting for us, along with the usual standards such as towels and bathroom toiletries.
We actually didn't see any staff members during our entire stay, mainly because there was no need to. This is one of the nice things about a serviced apartment - unlike a hotel, you don't have people hovering over you all the time. The information with our key and in our room was nicely done, and staff weren't noticeable by their absence.
The apartment's location was very handy for the city centre and for walking to the central attractions such as Watershed (5 mins), SS Great Britain (20 mins) etc. Welsh Back was a relatively quiet place to be, especially given our apartment was at the back of the building. That said, we did still hear a bit of noise from the city, given that we were there for a Friday and Saturday evening; however, this was more due to the city itself being noisy, rather than the apartments, and we were grateful that Welsh Back is slightly more removed from the centre than other hotels and apartments (including SACO's other central apartments in Bristol). The city tended to quieten down by midnight, and didn't stop us getting a good night's sleep.
All in all, I'd definitely recommend these apartments - they really make you feel as though you actually live in the city!

Room Tip: We booked a studio apartment, which was spacious and airy with a separate bathroom and kitchen - we...

“Almost perfect!”

We fiddled about with the booking - SACO were brilliant, accommodating and so helpful.

The location is magnificent in being central. We had a varied agenda and could easily walk everywhere.

Apartment was of a very high standard. Every facility is there. Finding a pint of milk in the fridge was the icing on the cake and typical of their thoughtfulness.

We stayed 2 nights, in apartment 10. Rather noisy on Friday morning from building work behind the apartment. Serenely quiet on Saturday morning though.

Can recommend Bordeaux Quay and Hotel du Vin to eat.

Only downside was a fault with the self-closing doors throughout the apartment (needed for fire regulations I expect). They would close… then there was a huge CRASH/CLONK from the closing mechanism, which I’m sure isn’t normal. Only a niggle until someone goes to the bathroom in the night, and that’s everyone woken up. I expect it’ll be fixed ASAP because they are really on the ball.

As others have mentioned, car parking in Bristol is expensive. The closest NCP is £19 per day. Street parking is typically £2/hour with a MAXIMUM stay of either 1 or 2 hours.

Update your SatNav as our 3-year-old maps didn’t match the actual streets in several important areas!

As well as the lovely accommodation, and eateries, we really enjoyed the Bristol pub scene. See www. beerinthe evening.com and search for Bristol.

“Nice clean modern apartments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Booked these apartments at the last minute after being let down by another company. Booking was very easy, lovely helpful staff booking confirmation came through straight away. Information in booking confirmation was great, had all you needed to know and was very straightforward to find and get into the apartments and clear instructions on what to do when leaving. The apartments were very clean, modern and had everything in there that you needed. All Molton Brown shower gel shampoo and condition left for each guest and two towels each. The whole thing was very well organised and I would definately use this company again when making another booking.
