“want to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2007

September 1st and 2nd is the annual Bristol International kite festival. During the last two years we have visited Bristol for this weekend and have stayed in various hotels. This year we stayed in the Wheatsheaf Inn and this was by far our best experience yet. the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was lovely. It's an old Inn and is furnished tastefully with many antique pieces. Our room was large with a pleasant outlook and was fresh and airy and was spotlessly clean.
When we enquired about eating in, we were shown three different menus, specials, bar meals and a la carte. We chose a la carte, booked a table in the restaurant and enjoyed a first class meal with excellent service. Full english breakfast was included in the price and this again was very nice with prompt and efficient service.
Altogether a very enjoyable stay and can't wait to go back again next year.

“The Chef must have been off...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2007

Hotel? B&B more like, how terrible. Poor service, miserable staff, and the food? Good grief. I had Pan fried Sea Bass with king prawns , the sea bass was NOT fresh, the prawns were slimy, I had to spit them into the serviettte! The Saute potatoes were greasy and chewy. My partner ordered omlette, the had used cheap cheese and it was stringy and, well, I just do not recomment it at all!

“Overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2007

At £85 for a pub B & B, I expected something half-decent, but I was mistaken. Sad room with ill-matched furnishings and cheap mattress. Main road outside, so expect no sleep after 5.30am. Restaurant hardly a gourmet's delight, with the most expensive item on the menu £8.95 for the mixed grill (it wasn't worth that much). Breakfast very average. For £85, I expected a lot better than this.
