“Well run … very friendly, clean and comfortable”

Owners Alistair and Sally, and their staff, all locals, were very welcoming, friendly and helpful, they were interested in where we were visiting and were pleased to offer local knowledge. Everything about the Hotel showed it was very well-run. Everyone, including the morning bed-room staff, made an effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

Simple décor and furnishings; maintained and cleaned to a very high standard. The bar and dining room were very comfortable and welcoming. Our second floor twin room, with ensuite, was small but very well planned, exceptionally clean and lovely and warm on two very cold nights. The beds and bedding were good quality and comfortable. Car parking was good and very convenient.

Breakfast was fresh cooked and excellent. Two other couples we talked to said they’d enjoyed their evening meals there. We had a substantial lunch in Bath both days so regretted not wanting an evening meal.
As four star ‘guest accommodation’ (not a hotel) Grasmere easily met our expectations.

“A Refreshing Change - Super!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

A lovely hotel. The staff are lovely. The service is excellent. The owner knew we'd had a traumatic experience at the Wentworth House Hotel in Bath and was absolutely super. He instantly restored our faith in the hotel industry and humankind. He was incredibly obliging and couldn't do enough and very professional. The hotel was easy to find and it was lovely and clean. If I was ever to visit Bath or Bristol again I would definitely stay there again and certainly recommend it. Thankyou!!

“Restored our faith in the British hotelier!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

After needing a hotel at 8.00pm, we came across Grasmere Court who were quite happy to offer us two double rooms at a reasonable rate.
We rang the hotel to confirm our booking, and received simple directions to the hotel.
Upon arrival at the hotel the staff were welcoming and promptly showed us to our room.
Once we had arrived at the hotel, and checked in, and taken our luggage to the room, with help from the owner, it was nearly 9pm (so pubs and resturants would shortly stop serving food) the hotel owner kindly offered us a meal at the hotel, even though the resturant was closed, and the chef had gone home,
The room was clean and bed was comfey, the bathroom clean with freshly washed towels.
The breakfast was lovely, we would deffinalty stay again.
Just a few miles from Bath an Bristol.

“OK - no frills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

Stayed for 1 night with 2 people sharing a room. Found the hotel to be a little dated but very clean throughout which I think is most important. The bed was squeaky but comfortable enough- I guess this would be more of an issue for light sleepers.

The young woman at reception was very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. She also proved very helpful- telling us a little about the local area and choice of local ciders!

We both thought the breakfast was really good and this surpassed expectations. Initially we thought the price at £78 was a little steep given the decor but as the price included the breakfast we then thought this made it reasonable.

“Charged more than the price stated on the website and brochure.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

I stayed with my wife and 5 year old son for 2 nights. Firstly, the rooms are very average quality; more like a 3 star at best, uncomfortable bed, extremely small television (14" screen). The service was OK, but I expect better from a 4 star hotel. The rooms are not soundproof at all, could hear all of the people walking up and down the stairs until about midnight. The breakfast was not very nice either. There was also loud music coming from downstairs on the first night which went throughout the night. The place really has more of a B&B feel than a 4 star hotel. The worst thing about the stay was that they charged us £10 a night more than what was listed on their website and brochure. When I enquired as to the reason to the lady on checkout, the manager interrupted and quite rudely informed me that the pricing had just gone up and that they had been meaning to change the brochures and the listing on the website. I found this extremely deceitful and rude. Would definitely NOT recommend to anyone.

We have been given a 4 star Guest House rating from the AA for the last 6 years and this shown on our web site. We do not claim to be a 4 star Hotel.
In most guest houses and hotels you may hear people moving around at anytime of the day, we have never had a complaint before about noise. We have had many compliments about the standard and quality of our breakfasts and this was highlighted by the last AA inspector. The hotel closes down at 11p.m. as we are not open 24 hours, so not sure where the music was coming from.
When this guested booked a room a price was quoted and agreed and when this guest phoned again for a second night the price was quoted and agreed. When the customer checked out he was asked if everything was ok with his stay and after he paid his account he asked about the charges.
This customer fails to inform that when he could not get his laptop to login into the free wifi system, we offered to lend him our daughter's laptop to use free of charge.
