“A lovely weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We have just returned from a lovely weekend away, visiting friends. We stayed at the Rosebery House and found it perfect. The rooms were clean and comfortable with all the facilities we required and the location was just right, with plenty of parking. We were directed to Clifton Village (about 5 minutes walk up a steep hill) for a couple of hours of window shopping, which had some charming shops and a lovely atmosphere - well worth a visit . Sean was helpful, courteous and very knowledgable of the area, which was great as we only had a short amount of time in the area. I would recommend this B&B the service was great, the rooms were just right and the breakfast was fantastic. The weekend was fabulous, thank you very much - we will be returning.

When staying in Bristol I used to stay in one of the large hotels. Yes, they have a lot of plus points but 3 things troubled me. Firstly, guests noisily returning to their rooms in the early hours (especially on a Friday night). Secondly, as in any busy city there is the noise of the emergency service sirens throughout most of the night and thirdly, there is the disturbance of the early morning departures as guests leave as early as 5am for flight departures. With all this in mind, I decided that I would try a 'quality' B and B. Parking in the Georgian crescent outside was a little tricky but that is probably more down to me having a large car! I was given the basement room which had direct access from the street down a small flight of stairs. A beautifully laid out main room with double bed, excellent shower and wc and in a room of similar size to the bathroom was a small kitchenette. Perfect! Fridge, microwave and an tea / coffee facilities were all that I required after a 3 hour drive and there were even some lovely home made biscuits -a nice touch. The room even had internal wooden shutters so that I could control the amount of light entering the room from the street light outside. Sean, my host, advised me how to get to the local eateries and even provided a local map. After an excellent nights sleep (undisturbed by extraneous noises) I had breakfast to look forward to. Homemade jams, a large bowl of fresh strawberries and raspberries were ready for me on the table. The raspberries were absolutely delicious especially bearing in mind that my stay was at the end of November! I was then provided with an excellent 'full english' - the mushrooms were perfectly fried, not the version you usually get at the big hotel breakfasts.....i could go on and on but suffice to say that this place is a real gem and in my opinion, reasonably priced. Highly recommended!!

“A lovely night's break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

We stayed at the B&B for the Bristol Balloon Fiesta and had a really fantastic weekend. Easily located and plenty of on-road parking, Sean our host was a real gem, providing local maps and pointing out some great walks, places to visit and eateries (also advising the places to avoid as we stayed just after ‘the riots’ had happened). The B&B is a beautiful house, there is no denying it, and our room was very spacious and comfortable, although I have to say there wasn’t anything in it that made me go ‘wow’ and justify the £95 per night price tag. I do accept that this is the going rate for most B&Bs in any city, but none the less, it feels steep for what you actually get.

On Sean's suggestion we walked around the harbour area and stopped off at a cafe that had been recommended (the name escapes me) with pretty views over the water, followed by a lovely stroll through the centre (stopping in at some bars along the way). During the evening we ate at the Pump House, just a 5 minute walk from the B&B. We ate upstairs in the restaurant and had steak which was lovely, but the chefs are very experimental with their food and we weren’t impressed with dessert (a form of trifle and the other a champagne jelly), I notified the waiter and we weren’t charged. I would say give the pub a go if only for a drink as it did have a very nice atmosphere.

Breakfast was lovely, nice and informal with everyone sat around one table, so it was a fantastic opportunity to sit and talk with other guests and get some tips on what to see and do.

Clifton is a 10 minute up-hill walk and well worth a visit, there is an old Victorian shopping arcade that has a fantastic antique type shop and great cafe there, my partner had to drag me away!

All in all we would return, the Balloon Fiesta was a fantastic day and I would definitely recommend it for all the family (alternatively if you walk up near the Clifton Suspension Bridge you can see all the balloons flying over).

We just wanted to drop you a line to say what a wonderful stay we had with you recently. You went out of your way to make our stay so enjoyable and we both appreciate everything you did for us, from the restaurant recommendations to the vegan breakfasts. We could not have made a better choice and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. We both went home very relaxed and happy.

We very much hope to visit again before too long, especially for the Balloon event.

Thank you again,

Graham and Jo
