“Nice hotel, good location - shame about the parking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Good location in the city centre. Stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip. The rooms were modern, clean and well appointed. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food in the restaurant was okay - with breakfast being good. The biggest issue here is parking - the hotel doesn't have a car park. After 6p.m. you can make use of some limited on street parking, but realistically you are limited to the local NCP - at £15 a day (after the 25% hotel discount).

Room Tip: Ideally a high room at the front, overlooking the waterfront.

Thank you for your very kind words. Very much appreciated and my team will be delighted
to hear that you enjoyed yourselves. I was however, sorry to hear you were disappointed with the parking arrangements in the city despite the ample surronding on street parking which is free from 18:00 until 08:00 hrs and all day Sunday. In addition to the adjacent NCP Queen Charlotte Street car park which is the nearest secure car park for peace of mind where we have also negotieated an exclusuive 25% discount from the NCP tariff exclusively for our guests, We do hope that we will be able to welcome you back soon. Kind regards,
Iain France-General Manager

“A bit shabby...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Superior room had a nice view of the canal with very large french windows looking down onto the front of the hotel. Room was well decorated and large, nice tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries in the bathroom. The receptionist who checked me in was very friendly and welcoming upon arrival. I ordered a burger from the room service menu in the evening which was of a good quality and nicely presented.

However, the room service charge is £5 which is a hefty price in comparison with other hotel chains (usually it is between £2 - £3) so the overall price of a burger and a pint of Grolsch delivered to my room was over £20.

Other setbacks included issues with maintenance of the room. Upon arrival the safe was still locked, I would have thought this would be checked when the room is reset between guests? Also, the bathroom tile TV on the wall above the bathtub wasn't working in my room (yes, I did follow the instructions on how to use it). Not too much of a disappointment but this does feature on the website, so would be a let down if the bathroom TV attracted you to this hotel. However, after informing reception about the safe it was promptly unlocked whilst I was out, an attempt was also made to fix the bathroom TV, although I was not informed of this directly.

The bathroom was in a bit of a tired condition with paint peeling, mould growing in the shower cubicle and faulty lights. Also, movements in the corridor were quite audible in the room. I could hear conversations across the hallway when my neighbours door was open. When the doors close they also slam quite loudly, which disturbed my sleep a couple of times.

I stayed here was it was around £90 cheaper than the Holiday Inn I usually go for, so great value, but I'm sorry mercure, I won't be staying with you again.
