I was quite fortunate getting a good deal (January sales!). I did turn up at 1pm and they said they had a problem with the room they were going to give me and they were changing me to another one. I came back later to find they have moved me to a wonderful double room overlooking the square. I had a very comfortable night and breakfast was quite enjoyable. Very close to the university so I was able to walk in.

My girlfriend had visited the hotel on a number of occasions as a business client and was e mailed a special offer for January. The rooms were only £35 per night so we weren't expecting the best in the house and were assured at the time of booking they would be fine. Upon arrival the young receptionist showed us to a damp, mould laden basement room which was frankly awful, and we were then shown two others, one with no hot water and another which was so close to the nightclub it would be difficult to sleep. (Her words not mine) After a time we were 'upgraded' to a perfectly acceptable room upstairs on floor 2. However for the next three nights we were asked to take room 4 in the basement with little heating or privacy being next to the cleaners room and lots more mould in the bathroom. Upon leaving they were not sure as whether we had prepayed (we had) no records at hand. The girl was so young and inexperienced she should never have been left to run the place, there seemed to be no management and little 'can do' attitude. Now yes this was cheap but had we known the quality and service for our 4 day break in advance there is no way in a million years we would have booked the hotel. My girlfriend will certainly not be staying there on her frequent visits to the city for sure. The location however is great but if you have a car be vary wary of the meter nazis outside you have to pay up to midnight.

I am regularly in Bristol on business but had never stayed at The Berkeley Square untl recently. I was pleased when my single room had a desk (including a fruit bowl!) and wifi access. The staff were pleasant and helpful - booking me a taxi for the train station the following morning. I will come back next time I'm in Bristol, the small things make all the difference!

stayed one night prior to exam in Bristol. single room as expected for price. great location,easy walking distance to hospital, centre and university. bar and restaurant looked nice but did not use so cant comment. only downside was rooms noisy and can hear everything/everybody in corridors which does get annoying. overall not bad and good deal on price but probably wouldnt stay again. n.b they offer parking in secure but packed car park for £12/24 hours.
