“POOR HOTEL, UNHELPFUL STAFF”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2012 NEW

We stayed at this hotel with some friends for 1 night this weekend - thank god it was only for one night!
Our friends had a complementary upgrade - we didn't. We have stayed in numerous Hiltons throughout the UK and love them, but this one we will NEVER return to.
We got to our room which was boiling hot!! We opened the window, which opened all of 4"... which had a security screen infront of it, incase we decided to jump out...!! Yes health and safety is great, but really?? It was a scorching hot day and our room was baking hot so we needed some air! We found a fan in the wardrobe but all it did was circulate hot air. We sat on the bed which was extremely uncomfortable. Very soft - like it was 100 years old and even "bended" in the middle!
We went to reception to ask to be moved to a different room - preferably with air conditioning! The unhelpful lady at Reception told us that we could have one of the many air conditioned rooms that were available but we had to pay!!! We were outraged! We had already paid for a decent room, so why would we pay more?? Both our friends and us are Hilton Members. Our friends paid less for their original room - and got a complimentary upgrade. We paid more, and got the rubbish room! When we told the reception staff this their response was "well they must be better members than you!" .....Charming! Not the sort of response we were after.
We had a very uncomfortable nights sleep - horrendeous bed and no air in the room! We are extremely DISAPPOINTED with this Hilton as we normally can't compliment them enough.
To top it all off we even had to pay to park in this shoddy hotel!!!!
Breakfast was the only decent thing about it - but even that is £18 per person!

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback regarding your recent stay at the Hilton Bristol.

I would personally like to apologise to you for the inconvenience caused by the temperature of your room on arrival, your window should of been open on arrival and allowing a nice breeze to circulate please accept my sincere apologises that this was not what you experienced on arrival at the hotel. We do have rooms with air conditioning in the hotel, but they are only in the deluxe and deluxe plus rooms currently, all other rooms do have fans available if required.

Regarding complimentary upgrades they are available to our Hilton Honors guests but only when you reach a particular membership status and they are subject to availability. I am sorry that this was not a service we could offer you during your stay at our hotel on this occasion.

Also I do apologise that if you were not made aware of the car parking charges before arrival, we do have information on our website and all of our other booking channels that there is a charge of £5 per day for residents and I am sorry if you were not aware of this prior to your stay.

Thank you for the positive feedback regarding breakfast at the hotel, it does cost £18.95 for breakfast if you just walk into the restaurant, a little tip for future bookings you can buy a breakfast voucher from reception at a reduced rate of £10 on check in, so make sure you take advantage next time you stay.

Once again, may I thank you for your feedback and if you choose to stay with us in the future, I hope we can exceed your expectations.

Kind regards

Andrew Peacock

“Excellent Customer Service - and has SMOKING rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2012

The hotel is a little tired, but the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful

It's a little out of town, so not a good pick if you want to be in central Bristol. Excellent though, for M4/M5, for Aztec West, and for Bristol Parkway

Had a few problems with the internet being difficult to re-connect (wireless only) in the early hours of the morning - the night manager couldn't do enough to help

It's a bit difficult to find and for some reason never shows up in my SatNav....

I am a repeat customer....

Room Tip: If you are a smoker, this could be the hotel for you

“A motel posing as hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2012

The brand name Hilton is severely diminished by this hotel. Its threadbare features and claustrophobic foyer negatively adds to a restaurant fare that is akin to a takeaway. Its staff, both reception and restaurant(cafe), cannot smile - all down to mis-management, given my observations over three days of stay. The buffet breakfast looks tired and sad and some items on it require ahatched as opposed to a knife in order to dissect. The one-page evening menu on my first night of stay had its first dish as Gammon Steak with pineapple (was this a time-warp and had I landed in the 1970s?) and the quality of vegetable and even dessert was way below par. Service was slowed and muddled. I could go on... this is a busy hotel because of location. It needs to be downgraded to motel status with the withdrawal of the name Hilton.

“Not usual standard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2012

Stayed for 2 nights Sunday and Monday - we arrived very late but were well greeted. Had requested an upgrade at a special rate and this was granted. Room had free water and some wine. Room was a large king bed and good sized bathroom - comfortable.
Next morning we went to breakfast - buffet service so mostly help yourself. Staff not very attentive. My husband went to maitre D'i to book a table for that evening, 4 members of staff walked straight past him and indeed 1 member took someone else in to eat even though my husband was ahead of them at the desk. Finally he was attended to only to be told that due to only 40 people staying at the hotel restaurant would be closed that night. No mention had been made on check-in and the staff hadn't asked if we were staying that night in order to warn us of the situation. No poster anywhere either. Had we not bothered to try and book a table we would have gone to restaurant that evening only to find it closed. We were told we could have bar snacks or room service. Made no sense as the chef would have to be at work anyway to cook food.
Later that evening we had a problem with the TV in our room, called reception and they said duty manager (Karol I believe )would come down, this he did within 5 minutes but when I opened the door I had to step back because he absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke - it was overpowering - not what one would expect of a duty manager.
He did resolve the problem quickly thank goodness,
The other problem we had was that when we asked about internet connection the receptionist told us that it was wireless and secure just switch on and log in. We did this only to find they wanted to charge £14.99 per 24 hour period - ridiculous - the receptionist hadn't mentioned this. Also the page when opened clearly states the wireless is not secure!! Needless to say we didn't use the internet - when I spoke to the receptionist the next morning I just got a shrug of the shoulder!!
We regularly stay at Hilton brand hotels both in Europe and USA and this was probably the worst - room was okay but staff not.

“Average Hotel, Average Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2012

This hotel is never going to set the world on fire. It is a standard 3star at best. Rooms are clean and spacious (we have stayed twice recently). On both occasions the hotel was very busy, this is probably down to location and price. We have not eaten dinner in the hotel, but have had breakfast. Breakfast is what you would expect, a standard buffet experience, not bad, but not parituclarly good either. Coffee is was appalling weak on both occasions, if you are a coffee lover it is probably best to pass on the coffee.

This hotel suits us as a location so we will be using it again, we book well in advance to ensure a good rate and on the whole it is a value for money experience.
