“Does th job but hard beds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Stayed here with a bunch of mates for a stag weekend in Bristol. Does what it says on the tin but, despite having a good few beers so I shouldn't have noticed, the beds are ridiculously hard. The completely plastic bathroom pod (clearly assembled offsite and "dropped in" to the building) is also a bit like showering in a caravan, although shower is warm and powerful so in all practical terms it ticks the box.

“Not the Ritz, but a nice hotel for the money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This is located a stones throw from Bristol Temple Meads train station. The parking at the train station was easy and reasonably priced at £9.80 for 24 hours parking (weekend rate). There was a car park marginally nearer to the hotel, however, it didn't appear as secure as the train station car park.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of Cabot Circus, Park Street, The Quay etc. However, as it was freezing cold during our visit we taxied around at a cost of around £5 per journey.

The rooms themselves are basic, but clean and tidy. The beds are averagely comfortable and the pod style bathroom was unusual, but again clean and tidy with towels provided, albeit not particularly large towels.

We snapped up a bargain when booking this hotel and would stay here again.

|We ate at the Living Room, The Quay. I would highly recommend a visit there as the food was outstanding and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

The lovely male receptionist who was working upon our return to the hotel (Saturday 11th Feb) was extremely polite, friendly and quite funny too. The bar was closed but he offered to prepare food whilst manning reception too!

The buffet breakfast was freshly cooked and had a reasonable selection of hot and cold to choose from. I didn't eat the scrambled egg as it didn't look appetising. The hot buffet consisted of bacon, sausage, beans and scrambled egg. The cold buffet had croissants, muffins, baguettes, cheese, ham etc and bread/toast available. There was also a good selection of fresh fruit, juices, youghurt, teas and coffees.

“Do not stay here!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed at this hotel last night and I have to say it was an awful experience.

Firstly, I was put in room 618, but the heating wasn't working, ok some may say, well I can live with that, but it was -1 outside and starting to snow, so they moved me to room 626, a family room but at least the heating worked.

As it was starting to snow outside, I decided to dine in. Big mistake....

I ordered hot and spicy wings for a starter. Chicken wings covered with a breadcrumb, which was as hard as rock and I had to pull this off and just eat the chicken.

I then ordered an Aberdeen Angus burger, with fries and salad. Normally in other restaurants, if you order an Aberdeen Angus Burger, you would be asked how you would like it cooked....not here, it was served up as dry as a bone and without any taste to it whatsoever... I had about 3 mouthfulls of this...

Still feeling hungry, I decided to order the Madagascan Vanilla Cheesecake, I mean come on, what could you possibly do wrong to a wedge of cheesecake?

Well, it was served up with one end practically running off the plate while the other end still seemed very much intact. I tasted the runny end which scalded my mouth, then the other end which was still cold and frozen.

Yep, you guessed it, they had got a wedge of cheesecake out of the freezer and bunged it in the microwave to defrost it.... not a good idea chef!!!!

I challenged the waitress with this and she replied, yep that's waht we did, and took it away, but at least she removed it from my bill.

So, I ventured off to my room to watch some TV for the night still feeling peckish, but thought well at least I can get a full English Breakfast at the buffet in the morning. Breakfast starts at 06:00 hrs!!!

I sauntered downstairs at just gone 06:30 hrs and proceeded to serve myself a full english breakfast. I decided to make some toast which is one of those machines where you feed the bread in one end and it comes out as hot crispy toast at the other end. Not this machine.... it barely even warmed the bread up and I had to repeat this process another 4 times, until the bread was kind of warmish but definietely not toast.

The breakfast itself, which consisted of Sausage, Bacon, Scrambled Eggs and Baked Beans, all kept in heated stainless steel serving dishes, all looked very nice, but upon commencing to eat this it was stone cold.... maybe I should have asked them to put it in the microwave?

The only warm thing I got for breakfast this morning was a hot black coffee. Out of a machine of course!!!

Lastly, they charge you £8.99 a night for internet access in your room, which allows you to get onto the first page of where you want to go, but you try getting any further!! It ain't going to happen.....

If your going to stay in Bristol, then give this place a very wide berth!!

Room Tip: Try the Ramada Jarvis. More expensive, but definitely worth the extra.

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for your comments. We appreciate all feedback and are glad you enjoyed your stay and found our hotel's location suitable for Bristol City centre visits.

On the other hand, I was disappointed to learn that the standard of cleanliness in your bedroom fell below expectations. Our Housekeeping team have a stringent set of daily procedures to follow and it is evident these were not adhered to on this occasion, for this I apologise. We have, of course, taken up your particular complaint with the staff involved to rectify any shortcomings.

Thank you once again for the feedback and I hope we can welcome you back to the Ibis Temple Meads in Bristol very soon. Kind regards,

“Mediocre”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Room itself was fine however the hotel bar was awful - the service was terrible, I ordered a lasagne, it was stone cold, I asked the barman if he could heat it up and he 'grunted' and took it back to the kitchen, he'd obviously handled my food with his hands, he came back out and threw it down on the table - no apology or anything. Hotel is alright in itself but its in the middle of nowhere - nothing around and food and service was terrible. (The female staff were good but the males at the bar were not).
