We had a warm welcome from front of house who were expecting us to join friends staying at the hotel. Pre-dinner cocktails were taken in a cosy corner of the bar. As nominated driver I couldn’t have anything alcoholic, and was pleased to have plenty of interesting choice. Helpful information is provided on the menu and there is plenty of time to choose what you would like to eat.
The staff showed care when escorting us to the dining room, discretely pointing out where the floor is uneven. This helped my husband who has difficulty walking. If you don’t like full on formal dining then skip this place, but I love all of the attention to details and fancy extras like amuse-bouche.
I can’t remember what the other guests had but my starter of wild salmon, fig, smoked yoghurt sorbet, liquorice, pink grapefruit dressing was a taste sensation. Main courses were generous in portion, exquisite in flavour and aroma and a work of art on the plate. Asking playfully for a ‘doggy bag’ went down like a lead balloon, however service was entirely professional and appropriate for the setting. Three of the party went for desserts, one even braving the ‘Assiette’ which was an amazing four or five desserts on one plate and would have easily fed two or more people. The staff were happy to provide extra spoons for anyone who wanted to share.
Coffee and home made petit fours were taken in the low comfortable seats in the lounge finishing off a perfect evening.
In terms of price, it is treat to eat here, and I believe that to stay overnight even more so, but the setting, service and quality is worth the occasional splurge.
