“Dinner at The Swan.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Staying a few days in Ravenstonedale but not at The Swan, we ventured out on the Saturday evening in the snow, all two hundred yards or so, with our newly purchased 'intrepid travellers torch'. We were going for dinner at 'their place' for a change. It's a lovely welcoming hotel/pub with a traditional bar and roaring fire, Great! The staff were cheerful and very efficient and we were soon seated in their comfy dining room. The menu was interesting and included a couple of evening 'specials'. We settled for a tasty starter, then had the pheasant which was was delicious. The guests around us seemed to be having a very enjoyable evening and we left for the walk back to the other 'lovely hotel' in Ravenstonedale feeling very well fed and happy. As we were leaving one guest asked if we were, 'from the Mountain Rescue Team'? Well, perhaps we had overdone the snow boots and windproof clothing. Where shall we stay next time?? Can't review the bedrooms at The Swan, but for food and atmosphere, top notch!

“great pub with serious competition”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This is quite a difficult review. We were staying six miles away and took advantage of a recommendation to walk to the Black Swan. A hundred yards prior however, was your newly renovated competitors, the Kings Head. So we stopped in there for a pint or three and moved on to the Black Swan. We did not eat, so can not compare the food. The landlady was utterly accommodating in opening the shop attached for us, and it was a fine pint of ale. But the refurb at the pub down the road was so damn good that when the sixteen of us decided to return to the same village the following day, we decided upon your opposition down the road. It's a difficult review because your pub was and is so damn good. Just be aware that the standards in the village have just been redrawn.

“family get together”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We had the room at the top which is an apartment with sitting room and kitchen. There are no utensils and everything is switched off in this area, but it was ideal for us.We never found out if this could be used as part self catering or not, but it would be a great idea if it could. After the evening meal we were able to retire to our apartment play games and not disturb anyone as part of the party had the suite directly below. The heating was not working in our suite, but we were given plenty of heaters to keep us warm and cosy. The beds are very soft and comfortable and the towels nice and fluffy. We found that the items on the menu did not complement each other, as everything was heavy with no chance of something lite. This could have been that they were running out of ingredients as it was just after christmas. Quite a few things were not available. Everyone found the food very tasty, but would have liked some vegetables to go with the meals. We would definately stay here again for a family get together it was perfect

Room Tip: We had three rooms and they were all lovely.

“Very nice. 3.5/5”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

this was a lovely pub. Food was excellent.....devine garlic potatoes, i absolutely loved them!! we sat in bar rather than restaurant but liked the atmoshpere of typical country village pub. The starters were good too, a fig salad with blue cheese-very yummy!

Service friendly and we would definitely recommend if you are in the area

“lunch with children”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Lunch here christmas eve, with children aged 6 & 2. Its not our 1st visit & wont be our last as we live locally, but once again the food was excellent, the staff friendly & attentative especially to our very excited children! One of the staff even convinced our 6 year old she was one of Santa's spy's! All added to the magic of the day!
Thankyou.
