OK, I haven’t stayed in a lot of B&Bs but I think I know what I like. This really isn’t it. It might be OK compared to some of them out there, but just not to my taste. It was clean, I have to give them that much and the breakfast of fruit, breads and yogurt did a passable job of holding me until lunch. The house is in a residential area of town (the town itself was pleasantly well kept and a real sense of civic pride was evident), but I couldn’t help feeling that I was intruding into these people’s private home and life. The rooms (bedrooms) were recently vacated by the couple’s 2 now-grown children. The house is large enough but there is no sense of privacy here. Sharing the bathroom with the other guests is a bit awkward (this I could have handled) but having the owner’s bedroom in the same hallway was a little strange. As I got off the ferry quite late, it was dark by the time I arrived. I wasn’t totally comfortable with the arrangements and felt a little claustrophobic in the tiny room during the night. I know it can be hard to find a room during peek tourist season in Port Hardy, and this B&B admirably tries to fill a gap, but I’m not sure if I would stay here again, even in a pinch.
