It's old and basic, but our room was clean, and the bathroom was fine. Not very big: not much room available to organize luggage. Free Internet access on one computer in the office. Washing machines were available. No food available. Pricey ($120 total) but it's summer on a tourist path. I have stayed in other motels in the town of Port Hardy proper, without much pleasure, so I was glad to find a pleasant place like this one. Too far to walk to the town. Convenient for the early morning ferry, but that is not a major fact. Port Hardy is small, and nothing is much farther from the ferry!

Came across this place on the net and was at a reasonable price. Stayed there for two nights.
The place looks a bit outdated from the outside. The rooms aren't that much better. There was a separate room with a double bed and a single bed. Not sure why there was two beds in there (we only asked for a queen). But the hotel room did come with a kitchenette, full with a fridge, stove, oven. Nice sized sitting area as well with a TV. But my boyfriend and I aren't that picky. We enjoyed having the kitchenette and the extra space in the sitting room. It looked like a mini apartment. It was clean, but the decor was outdated, straight out of the 80s, made it look a bit on the ugly side, but brought back fond memories of my childhood! lol
Parking and wireless internet is included. The guy at the front desk was friendly but didn't seem to know English too well.
It's very secluded - very quiet when we were there. We took a walk down the road which its located on and it's in a very beautiful area. Granted they were cutting some trees down further down the road, but that whole area is like that.
A short distance from the ferry and Port Hardy as well - good plus. I'd rather stay at this hotel than at the hotels in Port Hardy - the city seems a bit sketchy at times.

This property would be acceptable if it was just tired. It is a $40/night old motel charging high rates because most of the customers are one night stands. The only thing going for it was that it was clean. Rooms are poorly lit, shabbily decorated, very noisy. They would have let me out of my reservation(i think) if i could have found another room at that late time - I could not and we stayed. Not a good start to a vacation..........

Like most others, the only reason we stayed at the Pioneer Inn was to catch the ferry to Prince Rupert. That said, there is no reason not to stay in this hotel as it is the closest you can get to the ferry (and that's important at 04.30 in the morning!) and there is quite a nice nature reserve directly outside the hotel as well as on the road to the ferry.
The new manager is indeed everywhere and very helpful. Drawback for us was that the restaurant was closed for renovations (due to open again in August 06), but the manager (and his wife behind the reception) were doing their best. They suggested we order a pizza instead, which did arrive within 45 minutes and was actually quite nice outside on the big lawn.
we did visit the village of Port Hardy itself, about a 15 minute drive away, but there is nothing that should keep you in the village rather than stay in this quite nice hotel in the woods towards the ferry. Moral of the story, arrive in late afternoon, have a decent meal (or pizza) get some sleep (rooms were clean and quite large with kitchennette and good shower) and leave early for the ferry. If that's your itinerary you will not be disappointed by the Pioneer Inn.
