“"Great food topped by excellent service"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My wife and I decided to try the Sunday carvery a few weeks ago which is open from 12 noon through to 8.30pm, The food was plentiful and tasty and the young waitress serving us was extremely pleasant and helpful.

I would recommend the dining experience at The Boars Head to anybody who is looking for value for money and excellent service in beautiful surroundings.

“good for a one night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We stayed for one night recently.

On the positive side, service was very good and friendly. We were welcomed by the receptionist who was just delightful. Breakfast was also very good with a selection of hot choices from ‘Full English’ to kippers. The continental buffet was also good with a choice of cereals, yoghurts, pastries etc. service at breakfast was very efficient and again, friendly.

The not so good bits were the cracks in the bathroom tiles, mirror and the main window. Décor was fine but a little tired and certainly, some of the furnishings need replacement. Overall, the hotel is a reasonable 3* but needs some money and care invested into it.

We also had a couple of drinks at the bar which was very busy with locals eating their evening meal. The carvery on a Friday night is only £2.99! amazing value.

Location was convenient for our purposes. Good road links and abundant parking.

We did not try the spa but noted the prices for treatments was very reasonable.

Final point – value. Due to the poor décor, the cost of £70 for the night is rather expensive. I have rated it’s value largely on the good customer service. I suspect if they had any local competition, the prices might fall a bit and £40-50 per night would be about the right price.

“Cheerful, comfy, and good value.”

When the local population flock to eat somehwere, you know you are in for a treat. The top value Carvery has them queuing at the weekend, and probably the business guests do the same in the week. We stayed on their very reasonable Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Weekend package, and ate a different table d'hote choice every night in the restaurant. The chef has been at the Boars Head for 27 years, we believe, and he must be as contented as his diners.

The rooms are quite spacious and en-suite, with comfortable beds. Whilst they are clean, they look a little bit dated, but you won't complain at the excellent value for money.

This family-owned inn is in the business of giving residents and non-residents what they ask for, and it has been successful in this for a long time.

“Very good option”

Stayed here and after looking at some of the local alternatives am glad I did. Rooms were very clean and functional, comfy bed and a decent shower. The hotel has a good bar with very efficient and helpful staff. They have a carvery choice which was excellent and cheap and clearly popular at lunchtimes. Breakfast options were good and the full english was great.

I will be happy to stay there again when passing through.

“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

We have just returned from a two night Easter break at this hotel. Although we chose it through a newspaper advert the' dinner, bed and breakfast' offer was available over this busy holiday period. It is really excellent value. We were surprised at the size of the hotel and the rooms were also larger than other b & b places, which would match this price. Our room had a lovely view of the grassed park area, with the fountain. The choice of food on the set menu is very good and the dishes are truely excellent. The staff are very welcoming, helpful and polite. There is a large bar and a carvery and also beauty treatments available. We really were not expecting the level of service and the quality of the food on offer. For anyone wanting a base to explore the peak district this is certainly a place to consider.
