Though it's at the end of a metal road, 5 km out of Puhoi, the end view of the Hauraki Gulf and surrounding countryside makes it worth the drive.
A super king size bed with electric blanket makes the peace and quiet of the neighborhood an exceptional place to sleep.
Then, of course, there is the food. Breakfast of egg soufle is unique, light and fantastic. Dinner is unique and tasteful, from around the world.
Course, Charley the dog, keeps everyone on their toes, but loves a pet and a lay on the leather loung.
It's a total B&B country experience.

Jim and Helen stayed two nights and because Ian and Maralyn were going to a 'shed' party next door they invited us along. We met many interesting people and shared a lamb on the spit meal, a first for Jim who is American. Nice room everything 'as new', great views over the valley. A bit of a drive so we were pleased to eat in the house the second night as it was dark and stormy outside. Amazing French or Mediterranean food, excellent wine and great company. Breakfasts were great too, mostly home-made fare. Chance to visit local attractions including Puhoi, Matakana and Goat Island. Felt right at home and loved Charlie, a real character. Thank you Maralyn and Ian.

My parents, husband and I stayed at The Ridge for a couple of nights in early May. We arrived a bit later than planned due to heavy rains, but Ian and Maralyn were very gracious about it.

The view from the lodge is astounding, and the morning mist lends a very mystical quality to the place. If not for my phobia for wasps, I would have spent a lot of time out on the deck! The rooms were a little smaller than I had expected, but still quite comfortable. The living and dining rooms are gorgeous - wish my place were like that!!

Ian and Maralyn are marvellous hosts. Ian took us to visit Puhoi pub and gave us great recommendation on what to do around the area, and Maralyn cooked us the most fantastic meals - her osso bucco dinner ranked highest in all our meals in NZ! If you stay, make sure you go for the dinners - you won't regret it, except perhaps for the extra pounds you will put on!

Charlie the dog is an absolute delight. Even my husband, who is not partial to dogs, loved him. My parents and I totally adored him and very much enjoyed his sneaky ball games. If he had a twin or a clone, we would take him in a heartbeat...

All in all, fantastic place and a very pleasant stay!

Had a great stay, amazing food and company. Very relaxing and will definitely be coming back!
