My wife and I celebrated our anniversay with a weekend at April Point. We stayed many years ago and couldn't believe the changes. The accommodation is vastly improved since our last visit. The whole resort has been renovated in a casual west coast style. The food in the dining room was excellent but we found the service a little slow and disorganized. The grounds are very attractive and the views of Discovery Pass are excellent.

We rounded off a wonderful holiday on Vancouver Island at April Point. Although the environment was not as wild as some of the sights here, it was a good interim return to reality. The position of our room was great, with views across to Campbell River and the presence of playful sealions just below the balcony. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had not appreciated that the hikes on Quadra Island really needed a car to get to, so went back to bring our hire car over on the ferry to the island to access them. We were not disappointed and had a great hike up Mt Beech and the Chinese mountains. A longer stay woudl have enabled us to get out in kyaks or on bicycles.

Admittedly, I did things a little backward. I booked our stay at April Point and then scanned the reviews on Trip Advisor. In hindsight, this was fortunate since I may not have stayed at AP if I had read some of the negative reviews beforehand. Based on our experiences, much of the grumbling on TA is unwarranted and most of the good reviews are justified. At times I wonder if the complaints reflect more on the reviewer than on the facility. So, let me try to give a little balance to some of the whining. First, we found the rooms to be clean and comfortable. The soaps and shampoos were of good quality and provided in appropriate amounts. When we asked for an additional bar of soap (one for the sink/one for the adjoining shower), four were supplied immediately. Sure, at times we could hear a bump from the room next door or some muffled music from the adjacent kitchen. But, it wasn't annoying and didn't interfere with our enjoyment. Second, we found the staff to be helpful and friendly...without exception. Third, the food in the dining room and from the sushi bar was very good. The kitchen was also very accommodating. Being a vegetarian, there is very limited choice on the menu. However, the chef was very obliging and prepared a wonderful pasta alfredo with an assortment of veg and some asparagus on the top. Delicious. And on another evening, the sushi chef offered to make some tempura vegetables to add variety. Thank you. Meal prices may seem a little high but IMHO they are comparable to most restaurants elsewhere. The traveller who was upset that nobody offered to help with their luggage was totally different from our experiences. Everybody who was checking in at the same time as we did, were asked if they needed help. And the comment about stagnant water surrounding the spa is completely unfair. The grounds are meticulously. The setting of April Point is exceptional. Overall, then, it was a very enjoyable stay. The only reason I didn't give a full 5-star rating is simply because I reserve this for truly extraordinary and unique places....not many of these in the world.

we stayed at the april point in with our dog for a sat/sun night. the locatuon is breathtaking! the resort staff were really friendly, the clranets, reception, boat taxi staff etc really went above and beyond. we enjoyed the comp boat shuttle over to painters lodge resort; the boat ride was fun and the tyee pub was nice! the rooms are charming and we enjoyed that the dog friendly room was clean and nice (often in hotels they can be not so nice). we will be back for sure! quadra island is a very special place and I really can't say enough about the resorts hospitality! thanks for a great stay... next time we will need to go fishing:)
