Myself and 12 friends booked a trip here August 14th & 15th 2011. We flew in on a 40 minute flight from Vancouver South terminal to the Long Beach airport where a chartered bus was waiting to take us to the resort. Here we stayed in the resort's on shore accommodation.
Starting with the flight, the lone stewardess left much to be desired. The passengers were essentially read the riot act with threats of either turning the plane around or calling authorities at the other end to arrest anyone that as much as opened a beer. Understanding the legalities of such behavior, I feel the stewardess completely mishandled a group of individuals that were intent on having nothing more than a good time.
The accommodation was very comfortable. At a fishing resort you just need a good comfy bed and a hot shower. Our room had that as well as a view of the marina. Check with your booking agent however as there are supposedly beds ranging from singles to queens.
On to the boat. There were the 13 of us, 1 additional passenger, and 2 crew, Jared and Roxanne on a 53' cruiser. Beginning at 6am the trip out is about 2 hours. Fortunately for us the seas were quite calm and we saw many whales breaching in the distance. Once we arrived at the fishing grounds, within 5 minutes chaos broke out on board. FISH ON!! We put the crew to work and they relished the challenge. I can honestly say EVERYONE was having an incredible time! We took in 64 fish for the day after throwing back probably close to 20 wild coho. Largest Chinook was 17 pounds and the largest halibut was about 18. These aren't giants of the deep but when you are catching so many fish, these are plenty big enough. What made the trip more special I believe was the crew. These 2 hustled like none other and fit with the group so well! It was hard to say who was having more fun.
The following day the fishing had calmed down substantially with a 13lb Chinook being the largest. In lieu of fish however we were treated to some close up whale watching action right off the bow. Incredible!!
As with any fishing ventures, you are at the mercy of the the fish but the crews here, particularly on the first day, were incredible!
