“Interesting visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2010

I was here for a couple nights. The room was expensive by southern standards but relatively speaking, a good price. The room had a flat screen tv, a refrigerator, and a microwave.
The hotel is in a good location, a few minutes' walk from the main grocery store, and also a short walk from the other sites of the town. It's also close to the airport and I 'm planning to walk there when I leave. My room had a view of the ice covered sea. The Internet was fast and free, plus I noticed a printer and computer in the lobby area. If I ever return here, I'll stay here again.

“This is a good place to stay. Would come back.”

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. The location is outstanding, a few minutes walk from the airport and very close to "North Mart" for groceries. Front-desk staff was professional and very courteous. They offer studios at $179 and one-bedroom suites at $259. We had booked a studio but got upgraded to a one-bedroom appartment. The appartment was quite large, tastefully decorated with newish, good quality furniture and nice local artwork on the walls. The room came with a full kitchen with stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, plates, cutlery etc.. Everthing was provided and in good working order. The bed was comfortable and not any different from the big chain hotels. The windows could be opened and the heating worked fast and efficient when needed. The satellite TV had lots of channels in both English and French. There is some room for improvement on the housekeeping side, but I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

“Very Comfortable, Great Location”

We stayed for two weeks at the Capital Suites and it was great. The hotel is centrally located which makes it easy to walk to most stores and offices. There is on-site coin operated laundry and Internet access. There are also two computers and a printer in the lobby which are complimentary. The rooms are large and have everything you will need.

The grocery store, North Mart, is only a couple of minutes walk away and there is another one, Artic Ventures, only a few more minutes walk up the street. There is also a restaurant that has 24 hour delivery service.

There is a gym (Atii Fitness) about a 5 -10 minute walk away, right across from the airport.

“Best choice for Iqaluit by far”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2008

The Capital Suites is right in the centre of town, close to the stores, airport, and government offices. The standard room rates are also often the best rates in the city. The rooms are on par with a decent Holiday Inn, and nicely furnished and decorated. This is the Arctic, and things in Iqaluit are often triple what you would expect in the south. Even with this, the standard room rates are around $99/n compared to $150-250 for most other hotels in the city. It is also much nicer than the Discovery Lodge (next comproble hotel).

I was actually surprised as the Capital Suites in Yellowknife is horribly overpriced and not nearly as nice as the one in Iqaluit. Be aware food costs are very high in Iqaluit. The frobisher inn is obviously a much nicer hotel, but your also paying $100 more a night for that...and it really isn't that much nicer than the Capital Suites.

“Should have been better”

The Capital Suites is in a pretty good location, somewhat close to the main drag in Iqaluit but not right on it so you aren't listening to cars crunching by on the gravel. The room I stayed in was really nice - I stayed in a suite, with a full kitchen, and it was immaculately clean and quite well furnished. I was more than happy with the room itself, and the folks at the front desk were really helpful.

Really my only complaints are this:

after 11 p.m. there is no one at the front desk, and this is when people get loud in the halls. I stayed up until 1 a.m. listening to loud voices and crashing around in the hallways one evening. No one to call about it. To me, having to drag the pillows over one's ears at this ungodly time because of hallway rowdies is unacceptable. What's the point of complaining the next day?? After spending the late evening like this, one would inevitably want to sleep in the next morning - especially if it is a Sunday. Nope. Housekeeping pounds on the door at 9 a.m., and if you they don't hear you tell them to come back later (if you are if fact awake after the door pounding), then you get the pleasure of having to bellow it out yet again once they're in your room.

So, the hotel itself is great, but these things really take away from its potential.

  • Liked — Nice rooms, great location
  • Disliked — Noisy at night and inconsiderate housekeeping
