“Wonder winter vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 February 2008

We (group of six friends )booked the five-night package last fall and were somewhat worried after reading the review posted in Jan 2008 by brig207 with his complaints of staff low morale and other problems.
One of the aspects we liked most at Far Hills was the unfailing cheerfulness and helpfullness of the staff! Virtually everyone from the front desk, waitstaff , bartender, and yes, the piano bar player, were friendly and outgoing. Everynight we were served a gourmet four-course dinner. The menu is extrensive enough so that we were still eagarly looking forward to dinner on night five.
The main building is very attractive with lovely sitting areas, beautiful views, and downstairs, an indoor pool (Ok, no jacuzzi) and a washer and dryer for guest use. Our rooms were across the drive in a newer building and the rooms varied as to size of beds and quality of TVs. (Ask for a king-size bed if you're tall like us). The equipment rental/ski school is a short walk away and snowshoeing and x-country trails are right out side the inn door.
All in all, a wonderful winter getaway!

“Truly dissapointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2008

We went for a 2 day getaway and we're truly dissapointed. It was our 6th visit. We noticed right away that there was something diffent about the place and that's when we found out that they had changed owners. The place is poorly maintained. The jacuzzi is gone. We sat both nights for 2 1/2 hours for diner. It took 40 min. just to get the dessert. The staff is unhappy and are complaining to customers. No more piano bar only if it's busy they'll call the pianist. The massage was definately unrelaxing and the lady seemed inconvinience by the fact there was only my husband booked for a massage. The good things that I can say - the hills to ski are amazing. The food was good when served. I did like the fact that we could order wine by the glass (you have to ask - it's not written anywhere in the menu) and that the bedding in the rooms were updated! We'll not go again. We'll probably stay at a B&B and pay for a ski pass. It's grown so much the area that there's probably excellent restaurants to be discovered. Save your money. The place needs TLC

“Jewel of Laurential”

We had magnificent 2 day stay at Far Hills. The scenery is breathtaking, the beach and lake are fantastic. The service is exceptional. Rooms might be too basic, but who stays in the room after all. The dining experience we had there was the best ever; you might not find the same food and service quality in 5 star resorts. Overall just feel sorry that we couldn’t stay longer, came home revived. Our company included 2 teenagers and they manage to stay happy there either despite the fact that hotel rooms had no TV.
We will definitely be back next summer!

“Nice Hotel in Val-Morin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2005

We just came back from Val-Morin, where we stayed at the Far Hills Inn. I have to say that after staying at a lovely B&B in Montreal, I was a bit disapointed by the room at the Far Hills. The hotel is a typical ski resort - and, as such, the rooms are decent, but far from charming or elegant. Our room was spacious and clean, but very basic, and could use some remodeling. However, it didn't matter, since we only came back there to shower and sleep. The location is wonderful, with gorgeous views of the mountains from the patio, and a very beautifully landscaped garden. I can imagine how cozy this place must be in the winter too, but in the summer it's just beautiful, with its quiet, placid private lake, where we could swimm or take a ride in a canoe without pretty much anyone around. The dinner was great, and we looked forward to it all day - it was like a daily surprise. Food was made with fresh ingredients and carefully prepared, with great desserts and good service. The area is just great too, and wonderful if you are travelling with a family - the trails are not too demanding, all activities are accessible and "doable" for kids or senior citizens, without being boring.

“Lovely place”

What a lovely place- driving up to it -I was reminded of the little chalets in the movie dirty dancing. My boyfriend was horrifed to see there was no TV- but it was fab we played games and talked and had a lovely time. The food is sensational- I have not eaten better, even at 5 star restaurants- considering the price it is a phenomenal food service. Staff are very friendly and helpful- hiking trails are superb.
A wonderful retreat, we came home feeling really refreshed. Far hills is 1st class.
