“Fine Dining and Beautiful Surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Taking advantage of one of the last (probably) warm and sunny weekends of the year we departed from Cambridge and drove the four hours to this out of the way country house in the hilly bits of Conwy. It's on the outskirts of the very touristy Betws-y-Coed and the not so quaint Llanrwst.
We came in search of delicious food and the talented Janet Pitman duly delivered be it fishy or meaty it was all delicious (see photos)and of an extremely high standard.
When not filling our faces we relaxed in our comfy room, idly reading or taking indulgent baths in the large rooms with the occasional glance taken at the staggering views.
A food mecca for anyone wanting to visit North Wales.
Service is professional and often witty...

“Most romantic stay in wales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

My husband and I, after a number of nights in 4 and 5 star castle and cottage stays, would put Tan-Y-Foel at the top of our list. The most romantic tucked away setting with exquisitely manicured gardens, awesome views, impeccable large rooms and a luxurious shower and tub. This finest of country cottages is replete with the most high quality dinners we enjoyed during our entire holiday in England and Wales. Four courses with choices for each, a nicely detailed wine list, top rate service from Peter, the host, and all by candlelight looking into the gardens. So worth the drive through the lanes for what we will remember as the most romantic place in the UK. Lyn from the US

“Simply perfect !!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011 via mobile

This is one of the best places to stay in northern Wales. We stayed here for four nights and everything from the service, the meals and rooms were simply overwhelming. The quality of the food was extremely good. The rooms were designed with style and the service perfect.
The location has wonderfull view to the valley and is a perfect starting point to make tours on foot just as by car.
In one word, simply perfect.

“Simply the best place to stay in Wales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

This is without doubt a 'hidden gem' in the hills of Snowdonia. We keep on returning, because we can find none better in Wales. I have rarely tasted food better than this, unless prepared in Michelin star restaurants. It seems that the conversation at dinner tables constantly 'hums' with positive remarks about the food. This traditional Welsh Farmhouse has been lovingly converted into a modern and contemporary environment which is about as far from traditional 'chintz' as you can get. How refreshing to find such flair and imagination in decoration. The rooms are pristine, and presented with fabulous bathrooms - we've been around a few over time. The proprietors are both professional and welcoming, and breakfast is a highlight, which almost matches that at dinner......something we find rare in country locations......where breakfast is often a greasy let down. Some imaginative choices. The Greek Yoghurt with Honey and almonds divine. Try this, and you are in for a gourmet treat. Highly recommended - don't stay anywhere else if visiting Snowdonia!!

“so close to being perfect...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2011

the location - perfect.
the food - amazing. Really, really, good. From starter at dinner right through to breakfast, among the best food we've had anywhere. Good wine list too.
the room - beautifully clean, comfy, great views, lovely.
the host was great too.

the only negative for me was the interior design - it's a beautiful old country house which looks like it's been fitted out using leftovers from a budget 'designer' london hotel. It made the downstairs rooms feel a bit cold, where I think old country houses should have comfy squashy sofas with roaring fires...
