“Appallingly cheap quality food for a wake”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

The wake for my mother's funeral was held in the Plough Inn, Wigston, Leicester. It was convenient for the church, across the road.

Aside from the poor, slow, and unhelpful service of the staff, the food was absolutely disgusting. It was predominantly cheap stodge, massively carb dominated (presumably to fill people up so they ate less) and of the cheapest quality. I have no doubt that the owner stocks his kitchen at the local Farm Foods and Aldi.

If the owner spent as much as even £1 per head himself, I would be shocked and advising him that HE was ripped off.

I'm trying to write a comprehensive review here, but words alone cannot express just how poor the buffet food was.

Given that this dismally poor service was provided for my Mother's funeral I will never set foot in this establishment for the rest of my life. More than that though, I will do everything I can to encourage everyone else to steer well clear of this cheap, tacky, penny pinching, miserable, and GRUBBY dump.

If the owners are reading this, you DISGUST me. This was a funeral. What sort of service would you expect for your OWN Mother's funeral?

“Never again!!!”

Running late we were greeted by a bad tempered manager who was disinterested in our need to hurry and appeared to be inconvenienced by our arrival. The rooms are pleasant and clean and the beds are comfortable. We have stayed here previously on one occasion and although happy with the accommodation we were less than impressed with the food - in particular breakfast. Unfortunately this time we found the standard had not improved and on politely mentioning this to the manager were met with an angry outburst. He then contacted me a few days later at 10 - 00 pm to continue his winge - I put the phone down! An experience for me and my family never to be repeated.

“They made a difficult day harder”

This pub is run in what can best be described as an unproffesional manner. The Owner/staff are poorly turned out and wholly lacking in customer service skills. The food provided for a private buffet was badly presented of inferior quality and inadequate for the numbers present. As a chef with international experience I am appalled that such third rate food is still served in the UK. The occasion at which I was present was a family gathering following a funeral, on entering the building we were greeted by loud techno type music totally inappropriate for the situation. Unless you are happy with less than second rate service and food I would say avoid this place at all costs

“excellent accommodation and good food”

For anyone considering visiting Leicestershire or Leicester itself, why not stop at The Plough Inn at Wigston, a booking at this venue is highly recommended.

The welcome from the hosts is second to none. Accommodation is separate to the pub building, based in the former skittle alley which has been converted to provide comfortable rooms of a high specification. Our room (no2) was a clean well appointed twin room which had all expected touches such as iron/ironing board, hair dryer and a well stocked complimentary drinks tray.
Should you choose to dine in the pub the menu is large and varied catering for all tastes and a specials board offers 2 meals for £6.99. The food is delicious and breakfast again is of a high standard.

I will certainly be going back and would happily recommend it to anyone.
