“A great little B&B in a beautiful setting”

I've stayed here on and off for some time, never had an issue, always great service. Good food too. The two best rooms are in the converted barn next to the main building, the rooms inside are nicely decorated too, but sometimes it's spoiled by the fact that you can hear your neighbours, but that's the only criticism I can find. Free wi-fi is a nice bonus too. I would recommend it to anyone.

“Welcoming, comfortable, good value for money”

Stayed one night when in the area on business. Arrived at about 20.30. Welcomed by the proprieter. Met up with friends to eat - good choice and good food. The proprieter carried my bag to my room and provided a newspaper (I had forgotten to buy one). My single room was a good size and comfortably furnished. The ensuite shower room had a larger than average shower cubicle and the shower was powerful and simple to operate. The charge of £40.00 included continental breakfast. Full English would have been an additional £5.00. On departure, the proprietor carried my bag to the car. I would certainly stay here again.

“A Delightful Country Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2006

We booked this through E Bay not really knowing what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. We found the Inn in the middle of a secluded village overlooking the village green.
The restaurant offered a variety of home cooked food and a choice of reasonably priced wine.
The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming and the owner made recommendations as to where to go out and about.
I would recommend this Country Inn to anyone wishing to have a quiet weekend break.

  • Liked — The homely atmosphere
  • Disliked — The walls were a bit thin, could hear everything the neighbour said.
  • Tips/Secrets — Be prepared for a long drive through the forest to arrive at the village.

“More dog than 'Great'”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2006

We booked the room but it was never acknowledged by the establishment prior to us arriving there. So we didn't know how or when to arrive or what to expect when we got there.

When we did arrive, we were not asked our names so I don't know how the owner knew which booking we were. We assumed therefore that we must be the only people staying that weeekend but this was not the case.

The owner showed us to our room without a word of welcome or indead of any conversation. He disappeared as quickly as he could without mentioning breakfast proceedures either.

We soon realised that we had been given the wrong room. Instead of a kingsize with single room, we were given a twin with a sofa bed it was already a cramped room , but it was made more so after we had assembled the sofa bed. Even though we had stated that there would be two adults and one child in the booking, the only beds made up were the two singles. We were not given any pillows for the sofa bed either.

The bathroom was mouldy and smelled so. There was a shelf right in the way of the sink which had the corner right where your head went when you leant over. The toliet had obviously had leak at some point because the floor was discoloured around it.

The room did not have a hairdyer or other things as listed in the description which was a huge problem for me as I hadn't taken mine on the strength of that.

The bedroom was at ground level with windows into the beer garden of the pub and onto the main road, no curtains only blinds that could be seen through when the light was on inside.

Breakfast was disappointing too.

The owners were reticent and unwelcoming and we felt that for £70 per night the place offered poor value for money in a substandard accommodation. There are better B and B's locally for the same price and some are actually a bit less. I would advise anyone to try elsewhere as The Great Danes was more dog than 'great'
