“Expensive for outdated room and small breakfast!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We were just passing through Amherst on our way back to the states and it was late like 2am and just wanted someplace cheap with breakfast to stay the night. This wasn't our first choice but was the first one to have any vacancies. The night clerk was very nice and helpful and said he was giving us the late stay rate which was cheaper but still ended up being $130! I thought it was pricey but he said that was the best he could do and it gave us breakfast. the hotel was outdated to say the least and the Ice machine was broke as were the vending machines. The breakfast was alright we got our choice of cereal or oatmeal and a bread and juice and coffee or tea so not too bad but the overall experience was definitely NOT worth the price.

Dear “sweetpsycho”,

We at the Wandlyn take all of our reviews and comments very seriously, and have investigated the issues that you have come across during your stay with us in August. There are many key points that we are concerned about with your stay, and wish to clarify what may or may not have happened. Since we are unaware which date you have stayed, or what kind of a room you may have stayed in, we can only make guesses as to what may have happened.

As you can see from other reviews, we do have older style rooms within our hotel, however we offer them at the lowest rates we can due to this. We offer different types of rooms and rates depending on your reason for travel, and what price range you have in mind. From the sounds of things, if the other hotels were booked completely up, it would have been a busy weekend to which we would only have a limited supply of rooms to provide. We do not offer any ‘late stay’ rates at our hotel, though we can do walk-in rates, though rarely do we offer them on busy nights. However, the rate that you have mentioned does not match up to any of our room rates that we have, even with a walk-in rate and this has us concerned. Our older rooms are at the bottom in terms of pricing at this hotel, and are rated at $65.00 plus tax based on double occupancy. The most any of these rooms could accommodate is 6 people, otherwise someone would end up on the floor. Therefore we can determine this wasn’t the kind of room you had stayed on based on maximum price in this section, even with extra people. After these rooms, we have our standard section (drive up), which are updated rooms and there for convenience purposes. Last but not least, we have our renovated rooms, which seem to fall more in the price range you are suggesting, but confuses us at the Wandlyn regarding your situation. I invite you to our Web Site to look at our different types of rooms and their price ranges we have to offer. Looking at the photo gallery you can find photos of all three room types… the older ‘Value’ section, the Standard Section, and the Premium renovated section will all be in the photo gallery, and labeled appropriately. Some of these images are also listed on our Tripadvisor photo gallery, to which you are more than welcome to go through. Our value rooms are not listed for booking on our web site as currently there are none available, but you are free to call us toll free at 1-800-561-0000 to confirm room pricing as well for any type.

I can verify that one of our ice machines was out of order in August thus creating an inconvenience. However we have a second one as well as other vending machines down in our laundry area. If you stumbled upon the broken ice machine and brought this to the night clerk’s attention, he would have directed you to the other ice machine in the building. Never have all of our ice machines and vending machines been out of order at the same time. We urge that when people stay with us or any other hotel, when there is a problem to bring it to the attention of the desk agent who is working. That way they can have a look at the source of the problem and either fix it, accommodate you accordingly, or direct you to the person/place where you can have your problem solved.

Last but not least the breakfast included with your rate. Continental breakfast is included with all rates, that are $65.00 and over. Oatmeal is not normally offered with our continental breakfast, but seems you were served it which made your stay a bit better, and that in the end is what matters to us. Our continental breakfast normally includes your choice between several juices, choice of fruit cup or cereal, choice of muffin bagel or toast, as well as tea or coffee for each person in the room. Unlike other hotels in the area, we also have a restaurant on site so that if the continental does not suit you, we have a hot breakfast available to you as well at reasonable prices. These are also listed on our web site for your convenience.

We’re very confused about what happened during your stay. There seems to be some sort of miscommunication or confusion on what happened. Again, I invite you to call us directly to talk about the issues that you had during your stay at 1-902-667-1332 so that we can understand the situation better and can be fixed. After all, a problem cannot be fixed without first knowing there is one. We would appreciate this greatly.

Sincerely,
Amherst Wandlyn Management

“pretty decent place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

Stayed here 2 nights in October 2010 for a wedding, it was good value, a bit dated but didnt matter at all! Rooms comfy, pool was good, service at breakfast was a little slow but it was very busy. If I pass by again I'd stay here again for sure.

“A bit dated, but clean and excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011 via mobile

When booking we were warned that they were quite full, so only had their older, tired, budget rooms available for $65 including breakfast, so we weren't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised - the room was clean, and a bit dated (pink tub, older TV) but suited us fine. I couldn't believe it included breakfast for that price. There were two baseball teams staying, so we'd also been warned about potential noise, but had no problem. The breakfast was toast, cereal and small orange juice at their restaurant- not huge, but excellent for the price. The service was a bit slow because the place was packed and only two waitresses, but they were doing their best to serve everyone. Overall, best value so far on our trip.

“An Average Inn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

When we first arrived, I thought it was big for an Inn, the lobby was ok.
.......But on checking into our room immediately another hotel came to mind "Bxxx Wxxxxx". I am wondering if this location was once a "BW". The lay out of our room was just like that of a BW.

Any how in respect to our room....the shower stall appeared to have be recently replaced..bathroom was ok.
The basic amenities were just what you would find in an standard BW hotel room and the bed was ok, we slept well.

Value for the price we paid, was quite ok.

Would we stay here again, yes, at this rate, it was ok.

“OK stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

This motel is a little run down but the room was clean, beds ok, bathroom had been redone, wireless internet, and a pool. Decent sit down continental breakfast. Wait staff were trying very hard to be friendly and helpful.
