“Great location, would recommend.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

Stayed here when we arrived into NZ and when we headed South after visiting the BOI. Good motor inn, really easy to find, not too far off the main motorway through Auckland so good for getting back on the road again. Also, nicely out of the main city of Auckland in the nicest part of the supercity. Rooms are fine, got everything you need. Would happily stay again!

“SADLY, A VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE”

Firstly, I would like to say that we do not usually complain about many things, but I just cannot let this go - I'm sure that other units within Parklane might be of a higher standard, but I need to review the unit we were allocated.

We had stayed at Parklane a few years ago and had been disappointed with both the condition and road noise issue of the unit. As the location is great and we had a wedding to attend nearby, we decided to give it another try. We used our Flybuys points to make this booking and made a specific request for a unit NOT on the roadside. When we arrived and registered I checked with the lovely receptionist that we were not next to the road. She said no, we were not by the road. She also opened an account with our credit card and took a bond of $100 'to cover any use of the mini bar". We thought this rather odd at the time as we had never had this happen to us before. We thought it alot odder when we got to our unit and there was no mini bar in it!! The unit we were allocated was also right next to the one we had stayed in before and right under the very busy main road! I went back up to reception to repeat my request for a room away from the main road. The receptionist told me that there were only two units allocated for bookings through Flybuys and that she could not offer us any alternative. This upset us greatly as these units are blatantly and obviously their oldest, noisiest units and we felt like second-class citizens. When we stayed here three years ago the rooms were in dire need of refurbishment. They are still in the same condition. The carpets and chairs are stained, the bathroom tiles are broken, the bathroom mirror light did not work, the kitchen cupboard door was hanging off its hinges, the cutlery drawer was dirty and full of crumbs etc. The unit needs a damned good clean - dead midgies stuck to the bathroom ceiling, grit and mould on all the windowsills and doorways etc. When we arrived back at the unit around 12.30am after the wedding reception, we pulled back the bedcovers to find two long black hairs in the bed ... we really hope they belonged to the cleaning lady and not the previous guests. There was a group of people in the units above us who were having a bit of a party and it was 3am before they quietened down. So, all in all, a very disappointing experience. We spoke to David (the manager) the next morning and passed on our concerns. He denied that there were only two units kept for Flybuys customers and told us that there had been no more units available. This was a blatant lie as there were several units away from the road clearly with no occupants - unless the guests got up and left at 5am and the cleaning staff raced in and did their thing by 6am!!

I really hate having to give a damning review, but Parklane deserves it - not just for the standard of their studio units, but for their attitude towards guests who have legitimate issues with their accommodation.

“Great value, service and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2010

Finding a place within walking distance of the beach with 4 kids can be tough on travels but this place worked great. Very accommodating staff as we arrived early and they gave us a good deal on the continental breakfast for everyone. Easy access from the airport as well with shops in walking distance.

“Loved the atmosphere!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2007

What a joy, to stay in a motel with great service as well as being in a fantastic location.....the rooms were well sized and the bed was really comfortable (and had an electric blanket, too - which seems to be a novelty in New Zealand!!).......
We just felt so welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the managers, who were incredibly friendly. I would highly recommend this motel to anybody who likes to feel special. Thanks, guys.
