On arrival at 5.30pm we were greeted with a note which in effect said walk in and make yourselves at home, which we did and felt very comfortable indeed. The room was spotlessly clean, big comfy bed, coffee and tea making facilities, a refrigerator and TV. All very comforting and welcoming. A good sized bathroom and comfy sofa completed the picture. I was also able to use my laptop computer and log into my emails.
Field is well placed for trips to all the major sights such as Banff, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Yoho National Park and Emerald Lake.
Two short blocks away was the crew changeover spot for the trains that run on the CPR rail line between Vancouver and Calgary. If you are interested in trains, this is the spot for you. The windows are double-glazed, but even with the windows open, the gentle hum of the occasional train engine was pleasant.
There are two places to eat in Field that we found. The General Store which has simple meals and snacks and very basic supplies to make your own. Nearby is the Kicking Horse Inn and the Truffle Pigs Cafe. Apart from excellent food that is "worth a journey" they make the best cappuccino in Canada.
We found no downsides to it at all, unless you don't like the gentle hum of diesel trains.
