This is by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had.
As many people have said here, the hotel is in desperate need of a facelift, it looks like it hasn't been updated since it was built. However, the rooms are clean and the check in staff were friendly and allowed us to check in early.
The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything going on around you, which contributed to the major problem I had with this hotel. We stayed here on the weekend while attending a friend's wedding in Grand Falls. We returned from the wedding at midnight and were greeted by the following:
1. A lobby full of kids hanging out.
2. More kids hanging out at the vending area at the end of the hallway near our room.
3. Several rooms with their doors propped open and a party in full swing ( including a room of what appeared to be parents! )
4. 2 front desk staff in the main lobby who seemed to think that this was acceptable and normal behaviour for a hotel!
From midnight until at least 3:30am we were kept awake by shouting, laughing, and kids running up and down the hallways.
It's important to note the small hallway where our room was located was directly adjacent to the front desk, so it's not like the front desk staff could not see kids running back and forth.
First of all, I blame the parents of these kids, who must be so self centered and irresponsible to think that this behaviour is acceptable inside a hotel. Secondly, it is unacceptable that the staff of this hotel allowed this behaviour to continue, it shows a complete lack of respect and concern for the well being of the other paying guests of this hotel. In any other hotel I have stayed, the noise level is the main priority as guests are paying for a nights rest, and behaviour such as this would have prompted eviction. I have stayed at hotels in Las Vegas that were quieter than this hotel. The staff seemed to have no control nor any concern for the other guests in the hotel.
This was further exacerbated by a possible faulty heater or loose siding near our window that made very loud cracking sound every few minutes. It was absolute torture to stay in this hotel room and I will never stay here again, and I will ensure every person that listens to me will think twice about staying here. Next time in Grand Falls stay elsewhere or sleep in your car, you will get a better night's rest. My wife, who is 7 months pregnant, and I were lucky we got 2-3hr sleep combined all night.
I have to wonder if the management team at Fortis has any idea how far this hotel as deteriorated.
Any room NOT in this hotel!
