Don’t let the exterior and public areas of the motel dissuade you. The rooms are very nice. As a tourist, the only reason I can think of to stay in Matane is because it is a convenient stopover between Quebec City and Gaspe. Otherwise, you’re looking at a very industrialized area! The motel is located on the main road through Matane, with a railroad yard behind it. The trains did not disturb us at night, however. Our room was spacious, very clean and functional. It completely suited our needs as a place to spend one night. Also, there was a very good seafood restaurant about 1/8 mile from the hotel. You could probably walk to it if you didn’t mind the busy road.

We stayed here one night after taking the ferry from Baie Comeau. It was clean and spacious and much like any Quality Inn. Good thing that we made reservations as it was full for Labour Day weekend.

My only complaint would be that instead of a closet area, there was a garderobe as part of the tv cabinet and the door didn't open all the way (so we could leave it open). It was a little irritating to open the door to hang up and get your jacket and clothing.

We didn't try the restaurant. We went for pizza at Pizzeria Italia instead (the service and pizza was pretty good and the price very reasonable if you get the extra large (and you can finish it).

was not quite as nice as I had hoped, however it was not that bad either. I had booked a suite at the hotel as we needed the space for 4 adults. The rooms were clean but a bit dated and dark. We were able to access the room from either an outside door or through the lobby. The only down fall in our room was that there was one switch that turned on the over head light , desk lamp and the t.v. You could not watch tv without that switch on as it turned all power off to the outlet. We had to resort to removing the light bulbs in the celing and turning off the desk light so we could watch tv. The staff was very polite and friendly. If we were only gone for a short while in the morning to our surprise the room was already made up. The resturant was convenient. The meals were of average quality. Matane is not a large city but has many things to see north or south along the coast. I would probably stay here again but I will check other places first to see if we could do better.

As a "Road Warrior' I have the pleasure of traveling all over the province of Quebec. Today I checked into the Quality Inn in Matane, Quebec, and was pleasantly surprised by what I must consider to be the best experience I have had in many years. The young man that greeted me at the reception desk was outstanding in politeness as well as helpfulness. His caring for the guests was found in every member of the staff that I came in contact with. The supper that I enjoyed was far above the usual hotel fare, my compliments to the chef, as well as very friendly and courteous service from the young lady that was my waitress. My hat is off to the employees of this hotel. They are among the best that I have come in contact with through out 25 years of traveling on the road.
