“Well worth it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

My girlfriend and I decided we wanted a winter getaway this year and, for a while, hemmed and hawed over where to go before deciding on Mont Tremblant and this location. And well, a little indecision ended up being a very good thing this time around! We decided to try someplace totally new and ended up at Avalanche, which hit the spot for both of us, to say the least.

Avalanche is a really nice little gem of a bed and breakfast located on the quieter, northern side of Mont Tremblant near Lac Superieur. We liked it here in part because, although it's somewhat off the beaten path, it offers peace and quiet in the middle of a beautiful winter setting and still with quick access to the village. The drive to town and the busier southern side is roughly 15 minutes...not bad. And better yet, why drive it when you can ski there? The northern lift, just a few minutes away, will take you straight to the top. From there, you can ski wherever you like, and this is how life should be.

The very helpful owners, Phil and Nancy, go out of their way to make you comfortable and spare no expense and effort in making the place look and feel very much like home. They were a great help with information and even lent us snowshoes so we could hike on a day that was too cold to go skiing. As for their place itself, details are everything and, from the moment you enter, it's clear this is something they've put some time and effort into. With everything from the sheets to decorations on the wall, you can tell that someone put some thought into each little detail. This goes for the food, as well. Breakfasts here are definitely a unique experience and they have the best hot chocolate ever. :)

And speaking of people, this review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the very nice neighbors who helped us out during our time of need while there. I grew up driving in snow and haven't had a problem in almost 25 years. Yet, of course, an hour after we arrived we ended up hitting ice and getting stuck in a ditch right around the corner on the way to a late dinner. That would have ended our night, but super nice neighbors that came to our aid not only let us in to use the phone (and translated); they also pulled us out! Having traveled to Canada tons of times over a period of many years, I am always surprised when I hear the occasional comment about people from Quebec being rude or stand-offish. Simply put, this has never been my experience at all and this perfect little spot sure hasn't done anything to change my mind.

To sum it up, you can get a room in a Hilton pretty much anywhere, but what you can't always get is CHARM. This place has it, and its owners and neighbors are great people. We left a little sad to see them in the rear-view mirror, but get the feeling we'll be back. :)

“Havre de paix - Mountain Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

The Avalanche Bed and Breakfast is a wonderful refuge nestled in the Laurentian Mountains. Owner Nancy Langevin charmed us with her attention to every detail of our stay. She and partner Phillippe LaHaye are happy to share their love of the Mont Tremblant area - wether you like the entertainment at Mont Tremblant village or more rugged sports in Mont Tremblant National Park.
Our sun filled room with private balcony, overlooked the sparkling Riviere du Diable with magnificent mountain backdrop. We actually enjoyed the starry velvet sky at 3:00 in the morning! The rooms are spacious and well decorated as seen on their web site.
After a long day of hiking area trails we were happy to relax by the fireplace in the comfy living room and crawl into our cozy bed. Breakfast was a special treat with fresh fruit juices, excellent coffee: capaccino, cafe au lait, expresso, grilled fruit kebabs with natural yogurt, buttermilk blueberry pancakes, Mexican tortilla wrap omlette - YUM!
Hikers don't miss the Elephant trail nearby - more challenging than the trails in Tremblant Park with amazing views of the entire area. Thanks Nancy, for a marvelous stay! We will be back in the winter for cross country skiing.

“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2010

We stayed at The Avalanche recently on a snowboarding holiday, and loved it!

The B&B is located in a quiet, picturesque location on the northern side of Mont Tremblant. If you have your own car or a rental car, the location is perfect. It’s only a couple of minutes drive to the north-side lifts. The north-side has good snow, loads of great trails, and it’s less crowded than the south-side. The lift passes cover both sides of the mountain, so you can easily go up the north-side lifts and ski/ride down the south-side where the pedestrian village is. We started and finished on the north-side, but spent the days riding the north and south trails, stopping for lunch either on the south-side pedestrian village, or a great little café called Le Refuge right there on one of the trails.

The B&B itself is spotlessly clean, modern and beautifully decorated in country Canadian style. The hosts are lovely and will help you find your way around and recommend good places to eat. The breakfast each morning was exquisite, we felt very spoiled!

There is a great restaurant near The Avalanche at Auberge Le Versant Nord. Or, its only about 15 minutes drive to the pedestrian village, or 25 minutes to St Jovite, where there is great food and wine to be had! Try Bistrot Les Copains D'Abord for reasonably priced fine dining!

We definitely recommend The Avalanche! It’s so pretty and romantic, and very convenient if you have a car. It’s also far less $ than the pedestrian village..

“Simply an incredible experience in an immaculate home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2008

Im not one for Bed and Breakfast's..never have been and since my last experience with one was terrible.. I was not eager for another but nonetheless I booked with Nancy over the phone and just by speaking to her, I knew I was in for something special.
The Avalanche B&B is situated in a quiet little area about 10-15 minutes from Tremblant Village.... it is so quiet there...with a beautiful view of the mountain and river and the deer grazin on their lawn..the scenery was nothng short of Stunning and to see their beautiful house on the hill for the first time..was incredible.
Once we arrived Phillipe and Nancy welcomed us at the door..
When we walked in, I was shocked that a house can be as neat and clean as theirs, for a lack of a better word I'd say immaculatetly kept. We received a tour of their home...and each room, without exception deserved it's own front cover from Country Home magazine..
Nancy's ability to decorate is incredible and each room was a masterpeice of both comfort, and design.
Our room was the "L'HIVERNALE" beautifully appointed with a private bathroom and a stunning slate looking shower...big enough for two. The bed was a dream...and I slept so well for the two days I was there...
The food...Now I've stayed in many hotels around the world and would not expect a gourmet breakfast from a B&B but after seeing their home...I knew that breakfast was going to be a real treat, and it was...better then any hotel I have EVER stayed at.
Out first day we had glass of blended juices that Nancy makes which was delicious and there was this incredible coffee....then came a masterpeice of art in the form of a yogurt..decorated with almonds and a wonderful tasting maple syrup...delicious..next came a wonderful plate of all kinds of cheeses and tasty breads...
Our second breakfast was a Mexican Fiesta and that was also very well presented and tasted incredible.
Each Breakfast is different each day...and the Owner's gourmet skills make each one a delicious treat.
I forgot to mention that they had asked about food allergies and what we like and dislike...I hate tomatoes and Nancy and Phil made sure there were none around...a personal touch that complimented the rest of this incredible package.
I must also note that Nancy had made arrangements for us to eat on a seperate, private terrace...enclosed in mesh so no bugs get in...we sat eating a nothing less then gourmet meal, in the tranquil setting of a flowing river and beautiful mountain scenery.
Aside from Nancy and Phillipe making us feel welcome in their home...they also took care of our dinner reservations and asked us if there was anything they can help us with outside of the B&B in regards to activities in the surrounding area.

There are so many areas of the home that you can relax in...hammocks inside and out...comfortable chairs...a fire place...and a huge terrace to just vegetate on..
Crack open a bottle of wine...we did that a few times...
If you want to get away...get pampered, get rejuvinated and just plain feel like "a million bucks" take a few days off and head for Nancy and Phil's avalanche Bed and breakfast....
Well priced and the best bang for your buck.

Thanks Nancy and Phillip..Pam and I are coming back.

  • Liked — The beds, the Fantastic view, the food, the shower and the owners
  • Disliked — That they do not prepare dinners...could have gone for some Gourmet dinners too, I would have GLADLY paid extra.

“Tucked Away in a Special Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2008

Nancy & Phillipe wonderul host and hostess experience the joy of being welcomed into their home tucked away admist the beauty of the surronding landscape. Just a hop and a skip from superb restaurants and the aura of Mont Treblant or travel five minutes to hike in the National Park or have a bite at Caribou.

It is our second return, the first being four years ago when we connected as if we were lost family. Do not miss this incredible spot where you will be served a breakfast fit for a King and a Queen.
