“Small but cozy”

Even after reading all of the poor reviews, my husband and I decided to give the motel a shot because we have heard so many good things about the Rocky Mountain House Restaurant. I will admit that the rooms are tiny and slightly over priced but overall we really enjoyed our stay. The location is wonderful and the rooms were cozy. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and polite. After enjoying a lovely dinner and a few drinks in the Crown and Kilt while watching live entertainment, my husband and I were able to walk a few feet to our motel room and not have to worry about driving anywhere! I would definitely stay here again and we will definitely be back to dine at The Rocky Mountain House.

“Another terrible stay”

Came to Renfrew for a wedding and stayed here for one night. We checked in just in time to get ready for the wedding. During the 45 minutes it took to get showered and dressed we killed 3 big bugs!

The room was not clean. The carpet was stained, it smelled musty and the bathroom had not been properly cleaned. The fan, light shades, and blinds had not been wiped in a LONG time.

I complained to the staff about the amount of bugs crawling around our room. The blamed it on a bug problem in Renfrew. When I asked for a discount they had to call the owner. The owner seems not to be bothered by the fact that he runs a crumby, dirty motel. They ended up charging me $50 for the room.

The staff were very friendly and tried to help. I think the problem lies in ownership by someone who doesn't live in the town and doesn't care about the quality of the rooms as long as he can get $100 a night.

DON'T STAY HERE...unless you don't mind bugs crawling on you at night.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here

“Older motel, cozy bar, small rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We booked the room based on the motel's website. We originally booked a room w/ one Queen bed but changed it once we saw how small and cramped the room was. The room w/ two double beds was slightly larger. Wife wanted a shower- they'd forgotten to replenish the soap and shampoo. The rooms are older looking but everything was clean, the room has a small fridge and there was plenty of hot water (once we got the shampoo! lol) The small scottish bar off the lobby (The Crown and Kilt) while VERY small, offers a good selection of single malt scotches. An okay place to stay EXCEPT for the price- $99 mid-week, off-season?!? I think if they charged around $70 then it would be fair value for money.

Room Tip: Get a room with two double beds. The queen bed room is VERY small.

“An Average Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

Despite the many negative reviews (the majority being over a year ago), my stay here was not bad. One of the highs of the place was definitely the friendly staff, especialy at the front desk. The rooms and bathroom were relatively clean, the beds were suprisingly comfortable and there weren't any major issues I could spot. The taps and showers worked well and were clean, and the carpets looked like they had been vacuumed.
Judging by past reviews, it seems that some effort has been put into improving the place, and I hope that the staff ensure the hotel keeps going uphill.

“Sleep in your car instead !”

Before booking I asked the receptionist if the place was improved from all the previous bad reviews. She said yes and gave me a further discount. Bed was OK. Toilet was dirty. Old air conditioner was so noisy that I shut it off and opened a window. The road traffic kept me awake all night. Then I had to drive 4 hours the next day. Apparently these same people own the Worst Western as well.

This town needs a new hotel and different operators who do not insult their patrons' intelligence.
