On our second trip to Lizard Creek Lodge, Fernie, we had just as enjoyable stay as the first time.
Possibly, one of the best things was the way you could ski out, go up a mountain and then just ski right back in. The hotel also provided us with the skis, helmets and ski poles.The equipment is brand new and of excellent quality. The staff in this area were very helpful and no long queues.
One of the greatest features in the hotel was the size of our room. The beds were very comfy with the bathrooms being a great pleasure as well. The communal lounges have large windows with wonderful views and enormous fireplaces.
In the restaurant, the food and choice were amazing, with my child having a great choice.
Lastly, the pool and jacuzzi were fun whilst it was snowing. Definitely recommended for families.

We loved the condo which we rented for our stay, the hot tub facilities were fabulous and the staff were very friendly. The food was particularly lovely, we especially enjoyed the nachos and cocktails available in the main lodge. We had easy access to the slopes and other dining facilities. Overall we loved the hotel, the skiing was so much fun which was made even more enjoyable with such friendly staff. and reasonable prices.

We had a loft room which was set up very nicely to accomodate 1 couple and 4 single adults. There was plenty of room and two bathrooms, which was perfect for us. On our last morning there I discovered hairs under my fiance's pillow, which we hadn't checked for when we arrived. Fortunately he hated their bedding on site, so took in his own blankets that he had with him for our long trip and never ended up sleeping in the bed or using the pillow at all. I was absolutely horrified, and we will definitely we pulling any future hotel beds apart before using them... The kitchen was nice, but the dishwasher was incredibly loud so we could only turn it on when we were leaving. We asked for directions to the parking garage under the building from one of the staff, who directed us to a totally different building for some reason. We thought it odd that an easy question like that couldn't be answered by anyone. On the plus side, the outdoor heated pool and hottub and the sauna were really welcome and we had a really great time using them every evening. It was disappointing as well to find that the wireless internet connection was very poor, since we had a computer with us. It took 15 minutes to load a Google map of Fernie, and it was really frustrating. I would pick a different hotel next time.

Fernie seems turn into little Australia in the winter ! Lizard Creek is no different, both staff and guests. Generally helpful young staff but one gets the impression of a pleasant but rather distant management, which makes the negative reviews more believable in this respect. Previous reviews about icy car park etc. are nonsense. Quality of the condos and main hotel is good but nothing to rave about; perhaps better than average and good value given its slope-side location. Especially if you get a deal. Underground parking and internet (don’t believe the Lizard Creek condos don’t have Linksys wireless access) are free which is a plus. Lizard Creek supposedly has a good restaurant but we only saw a comfortable lobby one could eat in.
If you’re into skiiing N hours a day and a resort which is deserted by euro standards, but pretty soulless, then Fernie’s your place but it ain't Whistler or the US Rockies resorts. Fernie snow is great, as is the grooming, and the folk are friendly. But there is absolutely no life or real apres-ski either on the mountain or off. The base cafeterias are awful even by North American standards. Fernie town is 10min drive away, is cute and good for basic shopping. Skiing for complete beginners here is limited – note Euro blue trails are green in North America, and Euro red is blue. Fernie is best for good intermediates or better. Avoid Wednesdays days as hordes of surly teen boarders on school phys-ed outings rip down the 'slow' family zones.
