This was our third trip to Fernie, but our first stay at Lizard Creek. We liked the ski in-ski out location, and they were offering tempting room discounts. We had a two-bedroom condo, which was comfortably furnished and quiet.
However, for one of the premier properties in Fernie, we expected certain things that we did not receive. An example: we had constant problems with our room keys, so we called the front desk to ask what could be done and were given a lecture on demagnetizing - something we were well aware of. When later that evening we had heard nothing, we called again, and a different (and much more helpful) desk person told us that the complaint had never been noted. Finally a maintenance person was sent to fix the lock, but we continued to experience problems for the remainder of our stay and simply gave up trying to have them fixed.
Another thing that surprised us was the lack of WiFi in our unit. We were told we could just walk over to the main building and use the WiFi in the lounge, however, this was also the same place where they served meals and drinks, so it felt kind of awkward to sit at a table all set for breakfast.
Other disappointing things were the television remote in the living room that did not work properly, and the fact that there was a tub but no shower in the master bathroom. That said, these last two things we considered to be insignificant enough that we did not even bring them to the hotel's attention.
What did bother us, though was the inconsistent level of service. Some staff, like the young man in the ski rental shop, were friendly and professional, while others (among them one front desk person) would not even offer a smile, let alone service.
Overall, we did enjoy our stay, and we'd probably return. They really should pony up for the WiFi, though, and train their staff in the art of professional hospitality.
Room Tip: choose an upper floor, away from the elevator
