“Nice with some problems”

Have stayed here a number of times and love the location, the rooms and the facilities. Was really looking forward to a nice meal in the beautiful lodge and then a trip to the spa. Unfortunately the spa was closed for repairs, the restaurant is closed till December and a wedding was booked in the main lobby. Wish I had been advised at time of booking. I will try the lodge again but will be sure to ask questions.

“Exceeded expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

We spent the weekend in Fernie on a mountain biking trip. Being at the Lodge in the shoulder season was great - lots of room, quiet, peaceful in first class surroundings. The grounds are gorgeous and the buildings, lodge, condominiums all excellent.
The location is a plus if you prefer to be away from the action/restaurants/small town life of Fernie. You should stock up on groceries and cook in the well stocked kitchen.
The out of town location can also be viewed as an obstacle to easy access to shopping, exploring the town, enjoying some of the fine coffee shops and restaurants in town.
We found the continental breakfast pretty blah - wished we had a really good cup of coffee to savour while soaking in the view.
Overall - the Lizard Creek Lodge was a terrific base for us and we would definitely go back. The off-season prices are just right - a bargain really, when you look around at your surroundings.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the mountain are preferable.

“Picturesque Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

I truly love this picturesque place especially in autumn and have visited there a dozen times. Lizard Creek Lodge in my opinion is irresistible; surrounded by the majestic cluster of amber, apricot, burnt sienna and verdant beauty of the mountains in Fernie. It appeals to everything intriguing to me when it comes to a get-a-way!

This Lodge located up in the Fernie Alpine Resorts is alluring from the moment you begin the drive up the mountain road and turn into the private resort. Lizard Lodge welcomes you with a great room which boasts an enormous river rock fireplace among husky leather sofas and hard-cover books on variety of entertaining topics strewn all over chunky tables that fills my soul with tranquility. A favourite drink brought to you makes the moment perfect!

The rooms are totally warm & welcoming; all have a very “alpine look” cozy sitting room and sizeable kitchen dishes stocked, and each have bathrooms that are quite nice. My favourites are the one bedroom with loft when staying in the lodge because of the open air and spacious feeling you get immediately when staying inside and the one bedroom/studio located in the condominiums which I find totally rustic yet has a private bedroom too! The beds are very cozy with thick downs.

Be sure to book some time at the spa, you will love it. An exercise room is located next to the spa if you feel you didn’t get enough work out on a long hike, riding on bike trails or the ski hills . The pool area is outside and so alluring even in the cold knowing the huge hot tub is steps away and as you sit back you will be captivated with how stunning the lodge looks in the evening as seasonal lights light up the entire place! Yes, it’s pretty romantic…

“Nice Place, Could be Even Nicer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2011

This was our third trip to Fernie, but our first stay at Lizard Creek. We liked the ski in-ski out location, and they were offering tempting room discounts. We had a two-bedroom condo, which was comfortably furnished and quiet.
However, for one of the premier properties in Fernie, we expected certain things that we did not receive. An example: we had constant problems with our room keys, so we called the front desk to ask what could be done and were given a lecture on demagnetizing - something we were well aware of. When later that evening we had heard nothing, we called again, and a different (and much more helpful) desk person told us that the complaint had never been noted. Finally a maintenance person was sent to fix the lock, but we continued to experience problems for the remainder of our stay and simply gave up trying to have them fixed.
Another thing that surprised us was the lack of WiFi in our unit. We were told we could just walk over to the main building and use the WiFi in the lounge, however, this was also the same place where they served meals and drinks, so it felt kind of awkward to sit at a table all set for breakfast.
Other disappointing things were the television remote in the living room that did not work properly, and the fact that there was a tub but no shower in the master bathroom. That said, these last two things we considered to be insignificant enough that we did not even bring them to the hotel's attention.
What did bother us, though was the inconsistent level of service. Some staff, like the young man in the ski rental shop, were friendly and professional, while others (among them one front desk person) would not even offer a smile, let alone service.
Overall, we did enjoy our stay, and we'd probably return. They really should pony up for the WiFi, though, and train their staff in the art of professional hospitality.

Room Tip: choose an upper floor, away from the elevator

“Cozy and Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2011

The lodge is situated directly on the ski hill and was a real gem.

We stayed in a studio style room and were pleasantly surprised at how large and spacious it was. It had a separate bedroom with a queen sized bed we did not expect. The main room included a fully equipped large kitchen, a table for 4, a living room area with a pull out bed, and a set of bunk beds. The washroom was very spacious with a jet bath tub. The room also included a washer and dryer situated in a closet.

Our room was in the 2 building apart from the main lodge and had its own underground parking and hot tub. Our only complaint about this 2nd building is there is no connection to the main lodge.

The main lodge includes a fine dining restaurant and a lounge both of which had excellent food. The service was very friendly although initial contact upon arriving was always slow.
The main lodge also provided locker areas for your gear and a small gift/convenience store.
