I had a fairly lengthy stay at the Best Western. Fernie is booming due to mining and tourism and their isn't very much competition, if any, for the business lodging dollar. The hotel is adequate, but a service orientation is severly lacking. The front desk makes minimal effort, with a few note worthy exceptions. Want a massage? Check the number on the massage room door and call yourself. Looking for a restaurant? It's somewhere on 2nd avenue. No phone number. No offer to call and book. Have a problem with your room? Oh, we are so full!!

I'll try it again and report back. Right now I would say that the long term business traveler would do better to rent a condo in town or to try to find a good bed and breakfast. Stay tuned and we'll see how they do next time. By the way, housekeeping does a terrific job. Just ask for Josie.

After a 4 hour drive from Calgary on icy winter roads we arrived at the Best Western. We unloaded our bags and when I went to hang up our 5 coats I noticed someone else's clothes and food in the closet. Their was food in the fridge, clothes in the drawers.
The ladies at the front desk were very nice and came and emptied the room as housekeeping is gone @ 8 pm. Of course all the rooms are taken so we are left in this room with the hopes that the rest was cleaned. We are unsure of our discount until tomorrow.
I will never come back or recommend this hotel to anyone! I feel repulsed that this wasnt emptied. Apparently the occupant was moved to a smaller room for the weekend. I'm sure he will appreciate receiving his belongings that could otherwise been disposed of.
Just waiting to see what else we find......

Unexpected stay, forced to find accommodations when bad weather interrupted a trip, and was pleasantly surprised to find great accomodations at the last minute.
Pros:
Great front desk staff.
Room and public areas very clean. Rooms spacious, good beds, good linens, good amenities in bathroom. In-room WiFi.
Good security – room key to access through elevators.
Good breakfast (hot and cold) in breakfast room included in room rate. Onsite restaurant Boston Pizza to grab a hot meal or take to your room.
Cons: rooms facing highway can hear a bit of highway noise

We love Fernie and we loved this hotel! My husband and I had no reservations yet they happily accommodated us with a good rate right when we came in. The staff was so professional and friendly. Our room was lovely. When we tried to go out for a bit that evening, our door wouldn't lock but the front desk was helpful and quickly got us into another room with a working lock (which was directly across the hall from the original room so we wouldn't have to drag our bags all over the hotel). Not only was this new room convenient but it was equally as nice: comfy bed, good TV.. just a great room overall. Boston Pizza was good for drinks and late night food. We would definitely stay there again!
