The Econolodge at Baie-Comeau offers cozy but comfortable accommodations in the Quebec North-woods.
The rooms and public areas were all well kept up, but are not what would be considered “spacious” accommodations (as they appear to be on the Econolodge website). Set in a 1960’s era style building, all rooms open to the free parking lot outside your individual room door. The rooms themselves were very clean and serve well the basic function of putting a pillow under your head. Our room did have a small refrigerator but it appears from their website that this may not be standard in all rooms.
Internet is provided free of charge via a cable they give to you upon check in. You are also provided with breakfast coupons for a light continental style breakfast served at a sister hotel directly across route 138 from the Econolodge.
Oddly upon our return from the breakfast we found that our room key would not work. It appeared that we had been "keyed out" in the system. However, a visit down to the front desk did successfully resolve this without hassle.
Travelers arriving by ferry into Baie-Comeau should be advised that the hotel is located some distance (approx 15 – 20 miles) from the ferry dock itself – down Quebec route 138 towards Forestville – and not in the town you immediately exit into at the ferry dock location.
The hotel does not offer onsite dining but does have nearby restaurants and fast food locations to serve your dining needs. If your looking for Luxury Accommodations this will not be it. However, if your looking for a comfortable pillow to rest your head on for the night the Econo Lodge will serve this function well.
