“Great atmosphere terrific relaxation experience!”

A long time lover of charming and unique haunts, Salty Towers is always a place of refuge for me. Walking through the doors, I immediately feel the tensions of the day fall away from me. Granted, it is not the Hilton but neither does it pretend to be. If you are looking for the latest in modern conveniences, this is not the place for you. If turn-down service and a full menu are your preferred fare, don't visit. If however, you are a little Bohemian, aren't afraid to be adventuresome, enjoy exploring antiques and oddities then definitely visit Salty Towers.

Those who enjoy visiting musicians, artists and want to put their feet up and relax in a atmosphere of cheerful bon.homie will find a home at Salty Towers.

“My favorite place....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2006

Salty Towers is a haven of refuge and retreat for so many. I have been in love with the place since the day I was introduced to it by the love of my life. It is a sanctuary, a place of peace and tranquility filled with the sound of life and love and music. It means so much to those who really grasp what it is all about. Only those with an eclectic artistic talent or those who appreciate such talent can truly understand the unique draw of this house. Jamie Steel is a wonderful, knowledgeable, interesting man. Anyone having had the priviledge of staying at this inn should treasure what they have been allowed to share. It is NOT a place for those who are expecting to be catered to and pampered. It is NOT a spa. So if you are looking for those things you are in the wrong place. It is a welcoming spot for wandering spirits and those of us with a "gypsy soul". I have never felt so at home anywhere and hope to be able to enjoy this treasured retreat for many years to come. It will always harbour a special place in my heart.

“More realistic review”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2005

Read the review of this hotel in Arthur Frommer's. It is indeed like spending the night in an antique shoppe. However lets get realistic. We stayed in the famous room 2. We started up the steps and knew we were in trouble. The stairs creaked and their are no carpet runners. Thus whenever someone came in or left you knew about it. Getting into our room the bed also creaked. whenever I turned in bed I woke up my wife due to the noise. The bathroom is very old. The sink has separate hot and cold faucets (which are reversed, the hot being on the right). So you need to fill the basin to wash. The shower cannot maintain the temperature. If you like taking a hot shower and then it turns ice cold you will love this. We ended up taking only two showers in the week. It was too much trouble having one person n the shower whillst the next person handled the "contols" to try to keep the temperature constant. The toilet keeps running and you have to remove the tank cover and push the ball down yourself, we discovered this in the middle of the night when one of use went to the bathroom and the water kepp running. While Jamie Steel is a great guy do not expect him to make your beds each day and change the towels. Also free use of the kitchen does not mean much. There is so much clutter there is no room for anything else so we ate all meals out. In summary this a an unusual place to see but if you want a place to rest this is not it. It does not dearch 3 or higher ratiings just because it is different. A hotel stills needs to provide basics which this run down house cannot do. Our kids had a ball.

“an amazing escape”

Salty towers has an atmosphere that made me feel at home the second I stepped foot in it. I was surrounded by a antique portraits and artifacts that intriqued me until the day I left Saint Andrews. Another great aspect about it is that Salty's is constantly occupied by talented musicians from all over the world. I personally would not stay anywhere else in Saint Andrews if I where to visit again .
