“Complete Failure of Service”

Just found out today they closed the older wing of this hotel for renovations. After 20 years of talking about it we were looking forward to staying in a wonderful old property with a beautiful sea view. Now we are being bumped to the newer wing, which Im sure is nice but not the point. Shouldn't you at least look after the bookings you had then not book the older area and begin renovations? Terrible business practice if you ask me. You can renovate but dont expect my business again, Once bitten and all that!

“Fantastic Stay”

Spent 3 days here last October and had just the best say. Was an exceptionally warm fall and the outdoor swimming pool was busy. Very nice small pub style bar on lower floor was great for a pub style dinner in the evening .
was being operated by Fairmont at that time but they were giving up the management at end of year.

“Lovely, really!”

My husband and I stayed here during an overnight summer trip to St. Andrews. The check-in staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room was in the main part of the property, so the room was a bit smaller than traditional box-style hotels. The room was clean enough, though some of the original features showed some of their years of wear - this is to be expected of course in a 120 year old hotel, and in our opinion, added to it's charm. The rooms were of course, decorated in a style that stayed true to the age and historic nature of the property. Though we find a more contemporary approach to decor more appealing, we really enjoyed exploring the historic features in our room (i.e., bathroom fixtures, closet, key holes, windows, etc.). The grounds are gorgeous, with beautiful flower gardens and a pool area. We had a very nice stay!

“There something about this place you can't get anywhere else”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2012

I have had negative experience here but you HAVE to stay here at least 1 night on your trip. It's a historic hotel you can't get anywhere else. Don't pay attention to the comments about in need of repairs and outdated... the hotel is very OLD, what do you expect. This is why I stay here. It's overpriced but spend the extra bit for a very different experience.

“interesting stay”

We stayed for the weekend in the old section, we were there for a tournament. It was interesting. We had a room on the 4th floor ( the most haunted floor). It was almost as far away as you could get from everything. No one else on the floor and not many in the building so we were not sure why we were so far away. Our phone did not work so we could not contact the other people involved in the tournament who were staying in the new section, long ways to walk for ice. The room was okay, a bit dusty. Front desk staff was not very friendly (all shifts). Trevor however gets five stars. A really nice guy who helped us out in the pub and who gave a great haunting tour. Kept all the kids talking for days. Sure hope the women on the front desk shared the money we all paid for the tour with him, as I over heard them saying they should keep the money for themselves (a little greedy, maybe you should have waited until we left the lobby before you had that conversation). Had to ask for extra shampoo/conditioner on our second day. Seems they don't replenish, we travel alot so it is not something we take as it is usually replensihed with fresh ones on the second day. ( A little cheap I would say for the price you pay for the room and no phone services.)

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at The Algonquin Hotel. In addition, thank you for taking the time to relay your comments to us regarding your visit. We review every comment both positive and constructive to ensure that we are exceeding our guest’s expectations.

It was disappointing to read that your stay fell short of expectation, especially as it related to the service of our Front Desk. Our goal at The Algonquin Hotel is to exceed the expectations of all our guests and provide a high level of quality guest service. It appears we have fallen short of accomplishing our service commitment. However, I was pleased to read that you had such a great experience in the Pub, I will certainly pass on your kind comments to Trevor. If possible, I would greatly appreciate a call from you to discuss your stay further so we can continue to improve our offering.

I look forward to hearing from you. Should the opportunity arise for you to return to The Algonquin Hotel, please contact me directly as it would be my pleasure to assist you with any future travel plans.
