“The nicest resort in Kimberley.”

My family has visited Kimberley during ski season for the past several years and stayed at a number of different resorts and I have to say that Northstar is by far the nicest in Kimberley we've stayed at yet. This year we stayed in a huge 3 bedroom townhouse at the back of the Northstar property across from the clubhouse and found it extremely quiet and convenient for our kids to use the pool. Others have raved about the views from the buildings at the front of the development at the top of the T-bar but I personally loved the forest and ski hill views from the end unit we stayed in and the peace and quiet away from the skiers using the Owl T-bar. The town houses at the back of the development can easily be accessed from the ski hill by taking Midnight to Blacktrack and Backtrack to the snowmobile run leading into the RCR maintenance yard and then skiing or walking for about 2 minutes through the RCR maintenance yard to the back of the development. We used this route the entire time we stayed at Northstar to avoid the icy skier bridge and the long line-ups on the Owl T-Bar. Our favourite restaurant is the Village Bistro and our favorite spa is the Wallinger Day Spa (Joanne is amazing!) We will definitely stay at this resort again.

“Luxurious Mountain Retreat”

I first discovered Northstar in its infancy when there were only buildings A & B, and have been back countless times since then. I've been there on my own, with my family, and with friends at all times of year, and it's always a nice relaxing time. The newer townhouses are nice and high quality, but aren't as well designed and lack the superb views of buildings A through G. By far the best places to stay are the loft units, which are enormous and can easily accommodate 10 people. Given that they're 3 levels, have a separate garage and private ski locker, and 2 private balconies (one with hot tub and BBQ) the value of these places is awesome.

Most of the furnishings are local and high quality. The ventilation works great and keeps the entire place comfortable regardless of the season. Everything is well maintained and normally the cleanliness standard is kept very high. Noise from other units has never been a problem, as they're fairly strict about noise at unreasonable hours, and most of the people staying here are families.

Kimberley itself isn't terribly exciting. After all, their big yearly event is an accordion festival, which tells you all that you need to know about Kimberley. That said, it makes a great base for hiking, fishing, golfing, skiing, biking, and pretty much any sort of outdoor pursuit. Plus, at Northstar it's quite comfortable to just laze around and soak in the hot tub while enjoying the view. The ski hill isn't very beginner-friendly, but it's one of my favourite hills (except for its inadequate lifts) in Western Canada with lots of gladed areas, and it's so nice to be able to truly ski-in and ski-out from Northstar.

My only real criticism of the resort itself is that the water pressure in the showers is terrible. Otherwise I can't fault this place, as I thoroughly enjoy staying there and highly recommend it.

“Excelent - Can't Wait to Come Back”

Have stayed at Northstar a couple of times during ski season but thought we'd try coming out for a full week in the summertime. So Glad we did. Golfed a round at each of 3 different local golf courses (Trickle Creek, Bootleg Gap, Kimberley GC), drove to nearby Wasa lake Provincial Park (20 mins away) for some beach time and of course, spent a couple of sunny afternoon just hanging around the Northstar Pool working on our tans! We were three adults and two teenagers and were comfortable staying in a two bedroom condo that easily would have slept six.
I love this place just as much in summer as I do in winter. The condo's are air conditioned and the accommodation - from beds to kitchen amenities - is excellent. As per a previous reviewer, the condos located on the front "bench" of the resort, have the best (only) views of the mountains and valley. Building G is the most private, as it is located right on the end. These units are truly ski in- ski out. Anytime we've had issues with our hot tub or internet connection, maintenance people have come over very quickly to resolve the issue and if you run out of any items like toilet paper, kleenex or dishwasher soap, the front desk staff will give you more. We'll definately be coming back again.

“Fantastic Place”

We have stayed here 3 times this year, the condos were fantastic and staff was great when you need something. The pool was warm with lots of room to sit and enjoy the view in the pool area.If you have kids this is the place to stay as it was quiet except on our 2nd trip where our rowdy neighbors would not keep quiet and were warned and finally evicted from the resort. This shows me that the resort will not put up with excessive noise and has respect for the people that come there to relax with there families. We have finally purchased a condo at Northstar Mountain Resort and look forward to using it as much as possible.

“Best place on the hill. Period.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

I've stayed here each of the four seasons now and without a doubt, there is no other place on the hill better than this one.

It has an amazing view (gotta get in one of the units from A to G, though), complete ski in/out (again, units A to G), excellent value, good quality rooms and a pool. Other condos here have a couple of these, but only North Star has 'em all.

The service does leave a little to be desired. Communication is not clear about noise levels, there's no restriction on who can use the pool (people from other condo developments walk over to use this one), and they're slow to put out a smile, which I can't understand living in this piece of heaven.

Oh, and if you're looking for a great place to eat, The Old Bauernhaus german restaurant. Best place in town (and best place in the valley, imo).

All in all, if you're looking for a place to stay in Kimberley, BC, this is it. It has it all. If you end up staying some place else you'll probably find yourself saying, "next time we'll stay at North Star".
