“Almost Perfect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

After a lot of careful research we selected the Belle Victorienne B&B for our 4 day/3 night stay.
We looked into the negative reviews and spoke to the nice women who worked there about our little concerns and she was very up front about the previous complaints...as you can read for yourself further below on this review page. She explained that unlike a traditional B&B, operated by it's owners, La Belle Victorienne was run more like an Inn, with employees responsible for cleaning the rooms and check-in/out and breakfast! Some are disappointed with the difference others prefer it this way. As we usually use hotels we felt this was a better fit for us! We were right!
The pictures of this place do it justice, it was a quaint Inn/B&B, really clean, and decorated with cozy, comfort in mind. The bed was really comfortable with soft yellow sheets that were of nice quality and the mattress was a perfect balance of firm enough and soft enough! (I'm feeling like Goldilocks here!) The deep cast iron claw foot bath tub had to be one of my favorite things, and although we came prepared with bubble bath I was pleasantly surprised to see a nice big bottle of goats milk bubble bath at our disposal, along with other hotel-ish amenities like shampoo/cream/soaps and etc.
We stayed in the only suite they had and although other reviews complained about the street noise, and we did hear a little, the sound wasn't really bothersome. Maybe if you are a very light sleeper or need a very quite room to be comfortable, you should choose another back facing room. But as we are from the city and used to traffic/city noises during the night and early morning we hardly noticed and would stay in this room again on our next stay! It had a large flat screen TV with many movie channels, an electric fireplace set in front of two large comfy chairs (perfect for curling up in and chatting or reading a good book in). It had two toilets and sinks, a shower stall and the above mentioned tub.
There was a little fridge for our use, just outside our room door which was handy for cooling down the white wine we brought with us to use in one of the several 'bring your own wine' restaurants we visited, I will mention that we couldn't get ice, which was a bit disappointing because 'Malibu' just isn't the same without a couple of 'rocks' tinkling at the bottom of my glass :o)
There was a nice outdoor spa/hot tub for our use, 24 hrs a day/365 days a year with nice large puffy towels to wrap up in after getting out.
We booked a package that included a day at the Nordic Station Spa and Supper at a restaurant, our choice of three. We would definitely suggest this, as the Nordic spa was simply fantastic and the restaurant we choose, Fondissimo, was no less enjoyable!

Our only complaint was that the breakfast was as stated in other reviews...NOT GREAT! A sideboard buffet of the simplest sort. After three morning of that we wouldn't have done it a forth time, rather going out to eat breakfast in one of the cute little restaurants on the main street. I will say that the lovely women resupplying the sideboard items was simply a delight, she brought us our coffee (a small note here: The coffee is terrible, it took three mornings to get it drinkable, finally we enjoyed it when we asked for cafe au lait 1/4 coffee and 3/4 hot milk....the coffee was the strongest, bitterest I have every had served to me anywhere...and we usually drink espresso every morning!) So if a deliciously decadent breakfast is what you are after...Not Happening! But the smile that greeted us every morning was lovely!
The lady responsible for house keeping was of the same sort as the breakfast room women...simply lovely, as helpful as could be and nothing ever seemed like a bother to her. We came off without robes and realized we would need them for the hot tub, she ran off and showed up with two nice, thick, white robes for us a few minutes later!
All in all, we'll be back and staying in just the same room again soon!
I reviewed the restaurants we ate at too...be sure to check them out to help with your stay!
Thanks so Much La Belle Victorienne!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the B&B are quieter, bring robes for the hot tub!

“Disappointing - we saved the worst till last !”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Our fifth and final B&B of our 2 week holiday was by far the most disappointing.

Up until this point we had enjoyed the wonderful hospitality you come to expect from B&B owners.

We arrived at La Belle Victorienne at 1pm after a long and tiring drive, only to be told to come back at 3pm when reception would be open - there was no introduction, no friendly welcome, we weren't even allowed to leave our cases
- it was as if we had interrupted them.

We had reserved 'The Exuberante' for 2 nights but we asked to move after our first sleepless night due to the excessive road noise - there seemed to be a lorry passing through every minute. The room itself was fine.

The owner offered us the 'The Celeste' for our second night which was certainly a lot quieter. The room was again fine with one niggle - the TV wouldn't pick up any channels. When we reported this to the proprietor he replied that a previous guest had reported the same problem a week earlier - which begs the question when was it going to be fixed. He certainly didn't apologise or offer anything in return - just sort of shrugged his shoulders as if to say 'what can I do about it'.

Breakfast was a strange affair - the arrangements were being tinkered with while we were there, but in essence it was self service and basic - 2 types of cereal, bread/bagels to toast yourself, a few slices of cheese, a few bananas and apples, yoghurts and coffee, orange juice.

Everything was clean and tidy but overall the level of service was very disappointing.

“Mixed Feelings...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

My husband & I spent 2 nights & 2 days at La Belle Victorienne & we came out of it with mixed feelings...

The "Celeste" room was very clean & charming, however, the walls are paper thin & we could almost hear people breathing! La Rue Principale had lovely little shops & restaus with great service. The locals were very friendly & approachable, more so than the Laurentians.

The downside, however, was the lack of service at the actual B&B... the satellite which had about 15 working channels was on the fritz the Saturday night & since there was no one at the reception after a certain hour, we went to bed very early. We weren't given any emergency numbers, just in case. No one to call if the ceiling leaked! We had reserved massages at the Nordic Station, which was lovely & very enjoyable, but the lady at our reception misinformed us & told us we didn't have access to the Spa when we actually did. Never did we meet or even hear about the Owners. The Breakfast was ridiculous... 2 halved bagels, a pita bread, 1 croissant, 1 halved ciabatta bread, with cream cheese, croton & jam. All of which were store bought & reheated by a man in a white tshirt & blue jeans in the microwave & toaster. The fresh orange juice & coffee were tasty, and after about 15 minutes, when we were already full, the "cook" asked if we had room for french toast! Which we didn't! The french toast by the way was also store bought & all he did was heat the skillet with some butter & flip ONE piece of toast & serve it!

Despite our disappointment, we had a great time & we'll definitely go back to the Eastern Townships, just not the same B&B.

“Great B&B in a great area.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

We stayed here for two nights in the Somptueuse Room. It has a large private balcony that overlooks the back yard that is perfect for reading or hanging out. The breakfasts were excellent and the service great. Nice hot tub in the side yard. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. The Italian restaurant down by the water was excellent.
We spent half a day at the Nordic Station Spa. Definitely worth the visit (5 km away)
Lovely town with well kept bike and walking paths. Beach a short walk away. What a great spot to visit.

“Relaxed and Charming B&B-a great get away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

We booked one of the great value low season package deals, worth checking out if you plan to stay for more than one night. Staff are friendly, relaxed and helpful. The rooms are tastefully decorated and are clean. There is a hot tub which over looks St Patrice spire (fabulous at night) which we took advantage of and you are within walking distance of the town centre. As part of our package we had a very enjoyable meal at a local italian restaurant and nordic spa pass which was valid all day. We really enjoy our get away. We will be back!
