“Toilet drips and the room smells like a sewer.”

I came here for business. I called ahead and asked for a quiet room with new mattresses and pillows. I was here 15 years ago and the place hasn't changed at all. Worn, grungy carpet throughout, polyester and acrylic blankets and bedspreads that slide off the bed. The sheets did not cover the mattress (sure looks like the same mattress I had way back when). Last night I had no hot water; I was told to wait till the morning. The staff are incredibly supercilious and terribly blasé. I'm a Montrealer and maybe I expect too much from a ***** resort. Once again, I should have listened to TripAdvisor. Chantecler is a dive. I tried to get a spot in nearby B&Bs but the ones I called were closed or on holiday. Pity.

Room Tip: I'll get back to you if I manage to find one.

“Not worth it.”

One night stay that included dinner and breakfast. After looking at pictures of the hotel I was excited to go last weekend, especially since it the trees were changing colours and we knew it would be beautiful in the Laurentides at this time of year.

Firstly, I was disappointed to learn that check-in was a 4pm. I find that a little late compared to other hotels and resorts I have been to. While waiting for our room, we went to the terrace (deck) to get a drink and enjoy the view. The view didn’t disappoint but the surroundings did. It was very noisy from a wedding taking place just below us and from a big group in a congress at the hotel that day. Did I tell you that this hotel is mostly for congress and meetings? Yep and when there’s hundreds of participants, it can be noisy and jammed with people in the common areas.

Our dinner reservation was for 7pm. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated next to a window. We had a great view of the lake and surrounding hills. On Sunday-Friday nights, the included dinner is à la carte. On Saturdays, the dinner included is a buffet priced at 31.98$. When I saw the price I thought we would have a huge choice of meals and that the quality would be excellent. Therefore, I was very disappointed when I realized that the choice was less than any local buffet restaurant at 15-17$ per person and that the quality was less than average. The only great thing about this meal was the pasta bar. A server (who was very friendly) was making a pasta dish for you on demand based a few ingredients we could choose from (2 choices of pasta: spaghetti or fusilli, 3 choices of sauce: marinara, meat or rosée and a few extra such as pancetta, brushetta, garlic, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, pesto, etc.). Even the desserts were disappointing after a first glance. There were at least 6 choices of cakes but they were all store-bought (a lady that was replacing the red velvet cake told me it was that because she saw the name on the box) and all were too sweet. Finally, I don’t drink alcohol so I cannot comment on their wine list but the ice tea I ordered was very bland and tasted like it was diluted with water, a lot.

The room itself was okay or average and in need to be renovated. The bathroom was separated by the room by a small corridor. It was clean but very small and needs to be completely redone. The mattress was old and you ended up in the middle very quickly and the pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Our room was directly on a big private terrace with a very nice view of the lake. But again, the whole outside needs some much-needed updating. No flowers in the flower beds and the wood was not maintained over the years.

Finally, the next morning we finished our stay with the included breakfast. It was buffet-style and was okay. I had better and I was expecting more for the price it was listed at.

Overall, I will rate this resort only 2 stars and would not recommend it to friends and family.

“Good location, but not good accomodations”

Noisy,narrowed corridor,cheap bed stuff. Can't believe 4-star hotel doesn't provide frigerator.
One friend had to change room due to getting bug bites and stings.
Only foods there are good.
Next time if go ste-Adele again, prefer other hotels instead.

Let me begin by saying we booked this hotel for 3 nights for a friend's wedding weekend and after reading all of the reviews I was scared to death! I even had even prepared a list of other nearby hotels if we really need to escape. Well I am happy to report it really wasn't as bad as I was expecting and by the end of the long weekend we were almost sad to say goodbye.
The hotel is definitely strange and EVERY SINGLE ROOM is different. Because we were there with such a large group we got to see more than 10 different room types from the bridal suite to the minature motel style rooms that were in desparate need of a makeover. To help set expectations- think side of the road motel or old run down ski lodge and then you won't be dissapointed.
Yes, the bathrooms are a bit shady and could use some hardcore bleach but they were fine and served their purpose. The two floor suites appear to be a bit newer as well as rooms in the 1200's but some suites are located "through" the garage and to get to the 1200's you only have the stairs. Once again, think strange European hotel/ski lodge and you won't be dissapointed.
The rest of the hotel was fine from the bar to the restaurant to the awesome patio overlooking the lake, but they definitely need more staff. 3 bar tenders for more than 50 tables- no wonder people complain about service. The front desk folks were a nightmare but we made do and there only seemed to be 1 housekeeper for the entire hotel.
Honestly, we had a fantastic weekend and actually enjoyed the hotel. I encourage everyone to read all of the reviews but keep in mind that everyone has different experiences and I think a lot of it has to do with not having set expectations.
Hotel Le Chantecler could really be something amazing but it simply falls short, thats all. If you plan on staying here, read the reviews first.

Room Tip: 1200's seemed a bit nicer as well as the suites.

“Never, ever again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

This was one of the most disapointing experiences I ever had. I know the opinions are different and I will try not to take it personal and just state the facts.
I never stayed in Sainte Adele before and I heard about Chantecler numerous times. Although I have a house in Laurentians I wanted to have a weekend getaway with my wife to this location, big mistake. I got the room for 50% off through an internet promotion for $76, this is $76 too much for whatever this hotel offers. If I would have known the conditions I would have not paid this amount. OK, let's start:

- When calling to make the reservation you are greeted and told that it is a 4 star hotel, far from reality, even a 3 star from Cuba or Dominican Republic has a constelation ahead of this.

- Rooms - really poor, beaten furniture, broken fixtures, bathroom old with chipped tiles and heavy sillicone all around, with poor lighting and amenities. The TV a generous 17" old Zenith CRT great for 4 STAR hotel. Beds with firm matresses and exposed box springs on metal railing, with two pillows that are like bricks, with flimsy sheets and with those old dirty flimsy blankets.
Looking for a plug I had the unpleasure to look behind the bed's headbord, beside 1 inch of dust bunnies, a couple of used condom wrappers. What the little note on the bed's night stand say? - that the room was prepared for you with extra care - do not take it "ad literam" is pre printed, does not mean anything. Bottom line, we could not sleep there and lft early next day.

- Outside amenities are in the same shape with peeled paint, broken and old. Everything is like in shambles exept the check-in area. This gives you the same impression when you saw the glamour of the winter olympic games in Lake Placid in the 80's and you see it now, in the summer after 30 years (in Lake Placid they still made renovations and put some money, not here)

- Restaurant Tre Monti really bad, low quality food, bad service. A sign of 4 stars here: paper on top of the table cloth and paper napkins.

- I've been travelling a lot and I still travel, Canada, US, Europe and Carabbean. I've been in North America and Canada from Atlantic to Pacific and honestly I can compare Chantecler with a Motel. There is no 3 star hotel that has no glasses in the room, I do not talk paper cups what Chantecler has. Only road side motels/ inns offer this comfort but they proudly state their two star rating and do not charge you a 4 star price.

- Chantecler is lucky to have that prime location but beside that there is nothing to it. It needs a big investment and a total facelift, is old, beaten and degraded and it should not be mistaken to be rustic because it isn't.

- Veni - Vidi - Vici or been there - saw that and never again.
