Staying at this hotel for an extended period from Oct.22, to the end of November. Of all hotels I've stayed at for business travel, this is probably the best I've been at. Hotel is very new (I'd estimate less than two years), very clean & conveniently located just off the main highway.
There are plenty of fast food & casual restaurants within a five minute walk, many within a one minute walk. Tim Horton's (the busiest I've ever seen!), A&W, McD's, TacoBell/KFC, Humpty's Family Restaurant (good, reasonably priced "homestyle" cooking) & Subway are all within a minute's walk. Quiznos, Boston Pizza & a second Subway are within a five minute walk.
There are three liquor/beer stores within a five minute walk, one of which is right across the street. Two Supermarkets (ValuMart & Safeway), a Staples/Business Depot, WalMart, Canadian Tire, a western wear store, dollar store and various other stores are all within walking distance.
My room, #414, is a quasi-suite, smoking, with a sitting room, fridge, microwave, kitchen cabinets (no equiment or cutlery, though), two double beds, couch, desk, tv & dvd player, desk and easy chair are all provided. Bed is comfortable, pillows fine. Lots of closet space is provided with full-size sliding mirrored doors. Water pressure is good. Again, it is very clean & new looking.
The hotel's restaurant/ sports bar, Local Heroes, seems quite popular in the evenings, but I don't like the food that much (although the roast beef sandwich is pretty good) & it fairly expensive. It has some VLT's, if that's your thing & also has special evenings (pay per view sporting events, live entertainment a couple of times a month, both with cover charges). Each night has a special & most evenings have some type of event- karaoke, music trivia, etc...Local Heroes is closed on Sundays.
Breakfast is provided free of charge & it is not bad at all. A selection of breads, bagels & pastries, a make-your-own waffle station, apple & orange juice, coffee, tea & hot chocolate. A variety of cold cereals with milk are also available. Lots of spreads for your toast or bagels (PB, jams, cream cheeses, CheezWhiz). Lots of free newspapers are provided for guests (Edmonton Journal & Sun).
All staff, like almost everyone I've encountered in Alberta, are friendly & helpful. If you've never been to Alberta, get ready for a friendly surprise- people are very nice here; it's about the only redeeming factor of this hick province
To sum-up, I'd happily recommend this property if you need to stay in Ft. Saskatchewan (of course, who'd "want" to be in this sleepy town unless you have to for business is beyond me!!!). There is another motel nearby, Park Avenue Inn, which I also stayed at. That property is also quite nice, but Lakeview Inn & Suites is one step up, so I'd go for here if you can (both properties are very close in price). Bear in mind, this is an industrial area & is very, very busy. All hotels here are usually full. Govern yourself accordingly when planning a trip here- book early.
