“Just right for a pre flight overnight”

We knew it would be a long drive from Jasper down to the Edmonton airport, where we were to be flying out of early the next morning. We wanted a competitively priced place that had close, convenient proximity to the terminal and on-site dining. In short, we were looking for a self contained sanctuary where would could consolidate our luggage and refresh ourselves after a long day.. The Nisku Inn suited our purposes admirably. The plainly furnished room had more than enough space to spread our things out and a very large(50 inch?) LCD screen TV was an unexpected treat. What we really liked was the interior atrium with it's pseudo-naturalistic pool/restaurant area. It was the kind of funky, off beat arrangement one just does not find at a motel chain.Part of the fun of traveling is running into the unexpectantly eccentric and unusual from time to time. The two on site restaurants served up some pretty good and, for Canada, reasonably priced menu choices. We ate at the "Lake House Restaurant" on the shore of the indoor "lake" next to the "waterfall" and enjoyed the Disney-esque whimsy of it all.

“Non-Smoking Room smelled awful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

We stayed in this hotel and conference centre for one night and thankfully that was all we needed accommodations for. We requested a non-smoking room and the room smelled like 100 year old stale smoke. It was disgusting!! Our son needed to nap and we asked for an extra sheet for the playpen. They spent an hour trying to find a clean sheet...that's right the hotel had no clean spare sheets and had to take one of a bed in a vacant room. How's that for being prepared.

The atrium is quite nice but the state of the hotel room took away the possibility that we would ever stay there again.

“Stinky Flea Bag”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

It is 5:49 am and I am currently in this disgrace of a motel, not having slept a wink all night. Between the swampy smell from the pitiful decor (there is a 'lake' in the middle of this place that resembles a sad attempt of old Pirates of the Caribbean, only the Nisku Inn's take on it is pathetic) and the banging 'courtyard' door that is adjacent to my room, there isn't much peace and relaxation here. The front desk staff were kind enough, I guess (they did give me free toothpaste when I realized I had forgotten mine) the restaurant staff, although cute and elderly, were unprofessional to the point of leaning over my 'breakfast' to let her sweater drag all over my plate. The food is terrible, drenched in butter, with a side of grease. We will be driving into Leduc this morning to find something more civilized to eat before our meeting. The housekeeping staff just didn't bother to do mine or my co-worker's room yesterday and we were out of our rooms from 7:00 am to 9:30 pm so it's not like they didn't have a chance to get into our rooms or anything. The whole place smells like cigarettes and the courtyard looks ready to hold a tacky '80s wedding at any given moment. I would not stay here if it were the only place left with a bed in the city. I would rather sleep in my car. Instead of staying here, it is best to drive the extra 20 minutes into Edmonton and stay somewhere more civilized.

“Good value and excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

I have stayed at the Nisku Inn several times on business. The hotel offers good value and the staff are very friendly and polite, from the reception desk to the waitresses to the room service ladies. The built-in hairdryer in my room did not work, and after mentioning this in passing the hallway to a lady who was cleaning rooms, within a few minutes I had a replacement hairdryer in the washroom. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool and two levels of rooms facing the pool and restaurants and feel more welcoming; it also has room that do not fece the pool and feel more private. The pool is not new however it looks spotless and has the clean smell of chlorine, as it should. The restaurants offer well-stocked good buffet options as well as tasty items from the menu. There is also a bar and friendly service throughout. There is lots of parking and the location is terrific: close to the airport and conveniently close to all the operations offices for major drilling companies. The Nisku Inn is undergoing renovations, so although it does not look brand new, it looks okay at the moment , I am expecting it will look great after they finish.

“Extremely noisy, not controlled by staff!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

I echo the previous review!
Having stayed in countless hotels and motels over the years, this was by far the worst! the rooms reeked of stale smoke and looked dirty. The ceiling tiles in the bathroom were loose with dust hanging down, and the toilet was loose!
The 2 vending machines outside our rooms were in constant use--why are they not in a location where they cannot be heard but are still accessable??
A senior was travelling with me, as well as a young teenager, and having to catch a plane the next morning, it would have been nice to get a good night's sleep, but that wasn't to be! Noise levels were extremely high, and staff did not seem to be able to handle this--the police were eventually called in, but would it not have made sense to call in management reinforcements as well as soon as the problems started??
The only good thing about the Inn is the restaurant, which was excellent.
I personally would never stay here again, nor recommend it to anyone else!!!!!
