I could hardly believe anyplace could have 21 reviews and 20 of them were marked
"excellent" by our friends on TA. But, we went, and, once again, TA is correct. This place is an absolute gem of a find.
First of all, our stay was a little different because we took aver the entire B&B. My wife and I, her daughter and spouse from London, Ontario, and her other daughter and spouse from New Zealand took all three rooms for 3 nights in August 2010.
Even though it was unseasonably hot for Vancouver there was a large, quiet, window air conditioner in each bedroom which made sleeping very comfortable.
Since we had taken the entire B&B we hardly saw our hosts; they were on premise in their quarters in the lower level and available immediately if needed, but did not disturb us otherwise, which is what we wanted.
This is, as others have noted, a wonderful house from the 1920's which has been completely updated. All the furnishings, appliances, lines, etc. are high quality, along with the lovely grounds. There are 3 bedrooms and a library on the upper level, a kitchen, dining room, foyer, and living room and powder room available to guests on the ground level, and the owners have quarters on the lower level, where a laundry room is also available for guest use. The kitchen opens onto a nice wooden deck overlooking the grounds and has a table for outdoor dining.
The kitchen was fully equipped with a gas stove, full sized fridge, microwave, and warmer oven as well as all necessary small appliances.
Each bedroom had its own bath, all nicely appointed with ceramic tile and glass shower enclosures. Liquid soap is supplied, but if you like bar soap bring your own.
We attended a wedding and reception at nearby Deer Lake Park and the Hart House Restaurant, and this has to be the perfect location! We walked to the wedding in about 10 minutes and did not worry about driving, parking, etc. The large suite would be the perfect place for a bride and groom to retire after being married and having the reception at Hart House.
Wi-fi is available in the entire house, along with the use of a computer and printer in the upstairs library, which also contains a mini-kitchen with fridge stocked with pop and a microwave as well as an iron and ironing board.
Off street parking is available, although you are on a dead end street with virtually no traffic, yet close to the Trans-Canada highway.
I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a friendly luxury B&B in the Vancouver area.
