“Best place to stay in Golden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We stayed for the first time at the Auberge de Kicking Horse December 28, 2012, evening of our first year of marriage. Everything was perfect, through the outdoor hot tube for a great after ski, a cozy room with a really comfortable bed, super good breakfast to give us strength to go skiing double diamonds.
Marie-France has a real sense of welcome and was able to give us the best advice for skiing. We recommend this BnB to anyone, in fact we are going back soon!
Oh, on rit encore souvent de la phrase au petit-dejeuner : ce toaster c'est comme de regarder la peinture secher contre un mur, ca prend du temps ... Excellent !!!

Year after year this B&B provides me and my ski trip buddies an excellent place to relax after an amazing day at Kickinghorse. The outdoor hot tub fixes all soars and the owners knowledge of local grub and the best runs at the hill is the icing on the cake. Breakfast is served both hot and cold with no shortage of new items.

“Comfortable, cheerful and accommodating!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

I recently stayed at the Auberge Kicking Horse in Golden BC, to break up a road trip from Edmonton to Kelowna where I was headed for a triathlon, and chose it based not only on it's reviews and the photos on the website, but also on it's location (near the local public swimming pool) so I could do some training before I set off the next day. Well, what a find! Not only was it perfect for my needs - a comfortable bed with ensuite and a delicious breakfast as described in other reviews here (the homemade breads ARE wonderful!) but it turns out my host, petite Marie-France is an "ex" national-level triathlete and hardcore cyclist, so we had much in common to talk about. Arriving later than expected, I was warmly greeted and given instructions on how to get to the pool. Access to the guest bedrooms is conveniently located near the front entrance so that one does not have to disturb the whole house when coming and going. (I rose early to swim before breakfast).
Before packing and setting off, I was encouraged to take a slice of homemade fruit and nut loaf for the trip. I had such a pleasant stay, and Marie-France is such a friendly warm hostess that when it came time to make the return journey I didn't hesitate to book here again. I forewarned her that I would be arriving even later than my last stay, and arrangements were made for me to access the house/room. This time I got to try her baked oatmeal dish. Now oatmeal is not my cup of tea, but this was a lovely almost chewy, nutty-fllavoured deep brown oatmeal, topped with raspberries and fresh yoghurt. Try to resist seconds!

“Friendly host and delicious breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

We stayed in the Selkirk Room at the Aubergine Kicking Horse B & B for one night while passing through Golden. The room was on the small side, but was okay for the two of us as we were traveling lightly with only a travel bag each (i.e. no big suitcases as floor space was limited). There is a tall set of shelves in the room to store items. The attached bathroom was average sized, although very tall people may find their leg room limited by one of the shower walls when sitting on the toilet.

Marie-France is an energetic, welcoming, friendly, down-to-earth person. She was full of ideas for activities to enjoy, attractions to see, and places to eat. She has a display of many brochures, maps, and local menus for guests.

If spic ‘n span cleanliness is high on your list, you might want to look elsewhere for accommodations; but, if a home with a casual, lived-in feel, where guests mingle in the kitchen or living area, and visit with the owner appeals you to then you’ll enjoy your stay.

A fridge with freezer in the garage was handy for storing our ice packs from our cooler and some fresh B.C. fruit we had bought to take home.

There is an outdoor hot tub off the living area and a screened in gazebo in the yard, but we did not use either. Instead, we walked from the B & B to the downtown area to peruse the shops, have supper, and see the covered bridge, then walked back to the B & B along the river. Bug spray would’ve come in handy.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with freshly ground coffee made in a french press, two types of juice, homemade granola, yogurt, fresh fruit parfaits (especially yummy), a tasty egg dish with fresh cilantro and tomatoes baked in a casserole dish, a selection of fresh baking – berry scones and whole wheat bread (both were delicious), as well as baking from the previous day. The coffee, parfaits, and egg dish were served at the table, and the rest was served buffet style on the island where one could use the toaster as well. We appreciated the box of baggies on the island which we were encouraged to use to take some baking with us to enjoy later in the day.

“Great place to stay in Golden!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

I am an innkeeper as well and very much enjoyed our stay at this B&B. Marie-France was very friendly and accommodating (my son has a dairy allergy and i travel with lots of food, a cooler and ice packs - she had a fridge/freezer available for guest use which we took full advantage of!). The room was very comfortable and clean and our hostess a fountain of information. The breakfast was delicious. Marie-France does a buffet style with a scrumptious yogurt/berry sauce/home made granola parfait - it was fantastic. There were also delicious muffins, cereals available, juices, coffee/tea, and a yummy hot egg dish. You won't leave hungry!
Thanks for a great overnight stop Marie-France!

Room Tip: All of the rooms have ensuites and looked very comfortable and nicely decorated.
