We stayed in the Selkirk Room at the Aubergine Kicking Horse B & B for one night while passing through Golden. The room was on the small side, but was okay for the two of us as we were traveling lightly with only a travel bag each (i.e. no big suitcases as floor space was limited). There is a tall set of shelves in the room to store items. The attached bathroom was average sized, although very tall people may find their leg room limited by one of the shower walls when sitting on the toilet.
Marie-France is an energetic, welcoming, friendly, down-to-earth person. She was full of ideas for activities to enjoy, attractions to see, and places to eat. She has a display of many brochures, maps, and local menus for guests.
If spic ‘n span cleanliness is high on your list, you might want to look elsewhere for accommodations; but, if a home with a casual, lived-in feel, where guests mingle in the kitchen or living area, and visit with the owner appeals you to then you’ll enjoy your stay.
A fridge with freezer in the garage was handy for storing our ice packs from our cooler and some fresh B.C. fruit we had bought to take home.
There is an outdoor hot tub off the living area and a screened in gazebo in the yard, but we did not use either. Instead, we walked from the B & B to the downtown area to peruse the shops, have supper, and see the covered bridge, then walked back to the B & B along the river. Bug spray would’ve come in handy.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with freshly ground coffee made in a french press, two types of juice, homemade granola, yogurt, fresh fruit parfaits (especially yummy), a tasty egg dish with fresh cilantro and tomatoes baked in a casserole dish, a selection of fresh baking – berry scones and whole wheat bread (both were delicious), as well as baking from the previous day. The coffee, parfaits, and egg dish were served at the table, and the rest was served buffet style on the island where one could use the toaster as well. We appreciated the box of baggies on the island which we were encouraged to use to take some baking with us to enjoy later in the day.
