“Some trouble, there are pros and cons”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2009

Some of the former reviews are very harsh and go beyond what should be written about people, so our experience is, that indeed the lady of the house is a bit strict towards her guests. It is very important to her that lights are always put off and you really do not feel very welcome in some cases concerning some house regulations and she complains of guests in the past what one should never do. So we didn´t really dare to ask to use the lobby room with the fireplace, we had the impression that she is no longer very fond of what she is doing and we also had a problem when paying in terms of price. Her husand is a bit of other character and very nice and gentle. He does obviously love what he has created. The rooms I found very clean, but we had one with no view which went out to the backyard of their house, the other side faces the railway station down in Golden and it may be a bit noisy during nightime and daytime when the railway people are doing their job. The other rooms face the lake area. Environment is very quiet in total no direct neighbours in the near neighbourhood. I cannot judge if the rooms have thin walls or not, we did not have neighbours. The breakfast what o.k. and good. But in total we didn´t feel very pleased and welcome like we had felt it at other B& Bs.

“This place is definitely worth the ride up the hill!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2009

We are retired travelers so i guess the people who wrote reviews saying negative things are a bit persnicky. We have traveled the world and prefer B&B's and this one ranks near the top. The couple who built it 13 years ago and operates it -- are fine folks and very pleasant. The place is immaculate and the rooms (ours had a GREAT view of the valley) are about as nice and clean as can be with really nice decor. Hot breakfast is served and we especially enjoyed the fact that it was DARK at night with no outside lights shining in.

“Fawlty Towers in Canada!”

The Golden visitor centre felt this lodge would suit our 3 requirements - a log fire, a hot tub and somewhere we could consume our own food and wine. On arriving, we thought the place was closed - no lights and most of the curtains closed and on entering it was evident that we were the first (and only guests) arriving that day. Lights were switched on for us and after some persuasion the owner reluctantly lit the fire. Although we were told to make ourselves at home we weren't allowed to touch anything and when we asked for plates and cutlery we were told that eating our own foold wasn't encouraged. There were posters and notes pinned to various things telling us what not to do. On the plus side, we had the hot tub to ourselves and a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed. As for our hosts - well, Maria was entertaining and funny in a Basil Fawlty kind of way. We liked her a lot and she made us feel very welcome despite telling us she'd had enough of B and B. Herb, however, didn't manage to convince us we were truly welcome.

“A Wonderful and Relaxing Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2007

We found the Alpine Meadows Lodge to be a delightful place to stay for our visit to the Canadian Rockies. The inn was very convenient to Yoho, Glacier, and Mt Revelstoke national parks. The inn is remotely located at the top of a hill at the end of a dirt and gravel road and overlooks the Columbia river wetlands. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The owner and his wife were very pleasant to us. We learned much about the local area from them and had many good discussions about a range of topics. We would definitely stay there again.

“Not worth the drive up the hill”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2006

Beware. This lodge overlooks a rail yard and you will get no sleep with the slamming together of trains, whistles, bells, etc. all thru the night. The innkeeper's wife is absolutely weird and followed us around turning off lights, closing windows etc. The rooms are small, the pillows are flat, the bed is hard and this place is only recommended for those enjoying going up a 4 KM gravel and dirt road to the most unhospitable place on earth. We couldn't wait to leave. Absolute worse place we stayed on our 2 week vacation.
