“clean, basic room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

i stayed here for 6 nights while on a hiking trip to yoho and glacier national parks- if you like hiking and scenery, be sure to go on long hikes at those 2 parks!!!
i called and negotiated a lower rate than any other i could find in golden. there are many small motels in town but they all charge ridiculous summer rates for their short tourist season.
i was initially disappointed when i saw the rooms- poor lighting and cheap, very old furniture, faded bedspread, very dingy looking. but i chose a room upstairs facing the mountains and there was good natural lighting. the room was clean and bathroom was spotless. there is bad truck traffic noise on the mountain-facing side though, so if you want a quieter room ask for one on the back side (with no view).
the owner/manager natalie was very helpful- she let me choose a room after seeing 3 options. she also let me move a microwave into the room and gave me a 100 watt bulb and a lamp for better lighting.
it's a no frills room but clean and fine for sleeping. only soap is provided- no shampoo.

“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2010

An ideal place to stop if you are travelling on the trans Canada highway. We arrived late following a days driving from Vancouver but were still able to check in. No frills motel but for 113 dollars for a large room it was good value

“Comfortable on the way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2009

Easy to find, just off TransCanada Highway. Booked via internet and the reservation was kept. Parking in front of the room. Quiet, comfortable beds. Whirlpool closed.

“Weird room, but clean, affordable. A good choice.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

I had a weird room, with a harvest gold refrigerator from the 1970's and a color TV from the following decade. No worries, though. This basic room had plenty of space, a decent bed, and appeared to be clean. I stayed two nights here without any complaints.

The front desk staff (the owners, I assume) were friendly, and gave me the room with a kitchenette so I could be closer to the front office, and therefore, get a better connection to the wireless internet. Best of all, the price was right: $64 per night. Be sure to ask for a discount if you're staying more than one night!

“Great Place for overnight - Pet Friendly as well!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2007

We stopped here here on our way back from B.C. on Dec 28th. The rooms are a good size and very clean. The bathroom and back area have new tiles etc. We have 2 toy poodles so we always need to find a pet friendly location, this is the place. No coffee maker in or alarm clock in the rooms.. We overslept and missed out on skiing in Lake Louise the next morning ...Probably needed the sleep anyhow! Oh yeah don't eat at the Timbermill? across the highway from Smitty's if you are in a hurry! Breakfast was great but took 40 minutes to get it!

  • Liked — Pet friendly, clean and warm!
  • Disliked — No Coffee maker or alarm clocks in the rooms!?
