“Nice enough”

We arrived in the evening and all the amenities were closed, a bit too early in my opinion. Also, the breakfast restaurant did not open until 8 AM, which seems kind of late. There is no cell phone service in the area, and no wifi. I think if you are going to ski or hike or explore the park, this is a nice hotel, especially if you can take in their other facilities. I think it will cost you $100 a night, and seemed a little pricey for the level of service.

“Winter paradise - GREAT time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We just stayed a week in a 2 bdrm cabin over New Years with our 2 children (ages 8 and 12) and it was great. Our children had a fantastic time. Perfect perfect place for young children, This is a perfect getaway. Yes, it's not the Four Seasons Hotel, but the cabins are clean (yes they could use an updating, but fine) and it was quiet. What you can't tell from the photos is that the outdoor setting is winter paradise. Snow covered trees everywhere that are out of a movie. It's BEAUTIFUL. This is a small operation and that's what's great about it. It's not a big fancy overbuilt resort with tons of people all over the place. Yes, some things are not perfect (cable TV was reception was in and out, power went out a few times for an hour or so, the road to the ski mountain was closed most of one day), but you can walk to cross country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, an nice heated indoor pool, indoor jacuzzi, a small game room w/ a ping pong table). There's no WiFi, no Blackberry reception and no mobile phone reception, but getting away and unplugging is the point. The ski mountain is only a 15 minute drive up the hill and they have a charming school bus w/ the friendliest driver that goes up and back every hour or so. The staff is VERY friendly. New Years Eve dinner in the restaurant was excellent and other meals were fine except breakfast. A little expensive, but what a wonderful place.

“Nice Winter Getaway”

Stayed in standard 8 person cabin recently but have also stayed in a lodge room previously. Stayed 2 nights for New Years - no cable ("too much snow on satellite"), closed hot tub, closed skate rink (bummer for the kids), also "ran out" of some food and beverages... very disappointing! This was peak season - they should have been well prepared!
Some of the staff were also rude and "cranky" is an accurate description.
However, the ski hill is amazing!! Excellent snow conditions. A wonderful little ski resort!! I would definitely return for the ski hill but maybe at low season.
The cabin was fairly nice! Dusty and dirty in some areas but a nice size for 8 ppl (no dishwasher). For the cost it was fine. But I probably would not go during a busy time again as they do not seem to prepare for this. When we visited previously in February for snow shoeing - everything was available. Their excuse that "it snowed recently" was pathetic - Really? Cause I thought it was well known that it snows in this area... something to keep in mind?! They seemed to be caught off guard with the weather - Odd.
BUT snow conditions at the ski hill were amazing!! Worth going!

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin closer to the lodge if possible.

“A real mixed bag!”

The positive was the room was clean, decently appointed, and the staff was pleasant from the first greeting to the check out.

The tennis courts had wide cracks and did not appear to have been even superficially patched in 2011. The air condioner/heat switch could not be turned off and blew cold air all night onto me, while not being overly efficient during the day.

However, I left with a basically positive impression.

However I later found out that my two sons had called separately early on my birthday, but were told that the system was down to transfer their call to my room. They were both assured the messages would be conveyed to me though. They never were.

The thing that was most unimpressive though, was that an email sent to the manager stating all of the above, was not only not replied to, but never even acknowledged.

I think there is more a management problem here than a staff problem.

“Beautiful natural location, tired looking buildings and cranky staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

We booked one of the hotel's cottages because we had our dog with us, so my experience may have been different from those that stay in the hotel. We booked spur of the moment after going hiking for the day (we live in North Vancouver) and probably would have been out of luck if it hadn't been late sept. We were grateful that the store had bathroom things for us and pig ear's for our dog (he loved them!) Sleep quality was good because it's so quiet there, although a loud wedding party kept us up for awhile until a rain shower sent them running inside again.

The clerk at the store seemed sullen and actually complained to us about her job and the owners of the hotel when we politely asked her how it was to work there as we found the natural surroundings so beautiful. She told us that the business was up for sale, that she was getting laid off in six weeks with no notice, and that she worked long, long hours during the on season and lived across the street from the lodge, which she assured us was not like "Summer camp" at all. We were a bit shocked by her candor and it put a damper on our enthusiasm for being there.

Dinner at the restaurant was just ok (as others have said) and considering the natural surroundings and a client base that must include a lot of active people, it was surprising that they didn't have a vegetable garden on the grounds or any organic, healthy choices. We are vegetarians and actually ordered meat for the night because we were so hungry and the choices were so limited! Breakfast buffet was better. It also seemed pricey at $189 (although it could sleep up to 8 people) and that was the reduced off season rate. Also, the door knob on the bathroom door was broken (scary if you were in there by yourself!) and so was the window opener in the master bedroom.

We plan to stay in the campground the next time we visit manning park to enjoy the setting without the cost, ability to cook our own food, and to avoid the negativity of the staff.
