“Great spot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My fiancee and I came for a few days in July since we were sans kids. We live just over the border in WA and needed a quiet getaway! We asked for a lakeside view, and weren't disappointed! There was a concert going on that night and we were too close to Ric's restaurant on the bottom floor, so we heard that going on for quite awhile. Service was very good, desk greeters were friendly. Ate dinner at Ric's, and there was one waiter, so service was slow, but food was good. Would stay here again, and looking forward to another short getaway. Nelson is a great town!

Room Tip: lakeside, bottom floor, but away from restaurant.

“Not impressed one bit!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

I am embarassed to say that as a resident of Nelson, we have such a beautiful hotel with terrible service. We wanted to spend our wedding night here, asking only for a room on the first floor overlooking the lake. We were told at the time of making the reservation, because of the long weekend, we HAD to stay a minimum of 2 nights! At $200 per night we gulped and still booked. Upon checking in, the rate was higher than quoted and we were put on the second floor. Stood our ground and ended up on the first floor as we had requested, but had to take the higher rate. Room was overpriced for what you get. Next day, go to enter the room and can't get in. Went to front desk and was told they did not have a credit card imprint! Hmmmm wonder how it was that we got the keys in the first place?! So now they've swiped the credit card twice. Finally get into the room, and the room has not been cleaned and it is 1 pm! Watched our credit card statements online afterwards very closely, worried about the card being swiped twice. Discovered that the room was charged to the credit card that was used for the reservation and not the card that was swiped twice and to top it all off there was a huge bill from the restaurant on the card that was not ours! Service was also very poor in the restaurant. Management did help clear up the extra charge and we got the token lip service for our experience, but we will never recommend this venue to anyone. And we have stayed at a lot of hotels in our day.

“Stayed many years and would again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

I've stayed at the Lakeside Prestige for 8 years now on an annual Oct trip to BC. This last trip my girlfriend and I upgraded our room to the third floor. It was very quiet, the beds incredibly comfortable and the breakfasts to die for. $15 vouchers for Ric's restaurant were included in the room price and the egg breakfasts were so large, I could eat half and have leftovers for dinner. There was a small and very adequate fridge in the room as well. The jetted hot tub was no big deal though. It produced bubbly water but did not get any of the stiff neck or back spots I wanted it to reach. We were interested in doing some beading at night and an extra table could not be arranged and the internet connection was extremely spotty. (No, it was not the weather. I've had problems with the wireless connection there before when it was clear.) But all else was great. I wish they would bring back the lovely herbal tea in the rooms from 2003 though.....So would I stay again? Absolutely. There's nothing like walking out the front door to the path behind the hotel bordering the lake. And it's a minute drive into town. You can also walk to the nearby mall for wonderful deli food at the nearby market. Nelson is a very special place and we will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor are more expensive but worth it for the quiet. Also the lakeside view can'...

As a Boulder born, Colorado native, your review was so wonderful to read. British Columbia has so much to offer our visitors and to know you return on a regular basis is something our team will be happy to hear. Your concerns about the additional table and internet connection are items we are currently addressing. Mountainous areas are beautiful but often give us a challenge with technology. Thank you again for posting your review. We hope to welcome you back for a future stay.

“Lovely Lakeside Hotel Boasts best Lakeside View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We were four women who stayed here for our annual "Girl's Trip". By far the best accomodations in Nelson, and definitely the best view when you choose the lakeside like we did. The lakeside rooms all have balconies with small table and chairs. The ground floor rooms each have a grassy area with lounge chairs. The opposite side rooms overlook the parking lot, and face the town of Nelson with views of the town and surrounding mountains. There are no balconies on that side. The hotel staff (from the front desk to the maids) were attentive and friendly. Most times our requests were responded to immediately. Thank you for the wine opener, extra pillows, and lots of extra towels!!! The beds were comfortable, and the rooms and bathrooms were plenty spacious for 4 old college roommates. The small refrigerator was perfect for our needs. The hotel was very quiet - although we were not so much (sorry if we kept anybody up with our giggling!) The hotel was very clean. The location was unbeatable. We easily walked to Baker Street every day for shopping/spa/lunch and for dinner/girl's night out. The hotel is right on the waterfront and marina. There is a beautiful trail that leads from the hotel through the park and to the bridge. Great activities everywhere! There is a spa on site - but advance reservations for weekends are recommended. It seems popular. The staff at the spa was very helpful and recommended an alternate spa where the 4 of us were able to get appointments at the same time. There is a coffee shop at the hotel with wonderful organic coffee and fresh baked muffins. There is NO gift shop at the hotel - but the town is so... close that one is really not needed. There are vending machines for snacks and drinks late at night. Ric's grill is the onsite restaurant with beautiful lakeside view dining. Our waiter was very friendly, but seemed like he was the only ONE person doing everything - so service was a little slow. The food however was good.

Room Tip: Definitely recommend a lake view room.

“Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Having researched the reviews on Tripadvisor, my wife and I opted to stay in a Lakeside Prestige room at this resort. The guest room was appointed to a standard that you would expect to find in five star establishments in the capital city with spa tub, cordless phone, bar fridge, giant screen TV and even a phone and smaller TV in the bathroom. The furnishing was up market, the room spacious, the beds comfortable and the balcony and view of the lake was great. The resort had plenty of parking and was only a short walk to the city's shopping mall.
Having spent a month travelling in Canada and the USA on a drive holiday, we found the room rate, admittedly the Seniors' rate, was far less than that charged by other, lesser establishments and was exceedingly good value. Our stay there was one of the highlights of our trip.
